If I shot a Goblin with an arrow in the OB tutorial dungeon, or stabbed it with an iron dagger, the body somehow went airborne and splatted up against a wall. That may not have been "gore", but the violence was absurdly and hilariously overdone. Oddly, hacking away at that same goblin with a Daedric Claymore at a higher level wouldn't do a whole lot. "Can I get my old iron dagger back? That used to work fine against Goblins." It was a bit odd how the bodies showed no sign of violence, other than being bent and twisted into bizarre shapes, after the weird shifting "blood decals" had moved on or faded away.
In FO3, shooting somebody with a single BB from ambush would cause body parts to fly off, and turn the corpse into a mutilated and bloody stump. If that's your idea of "realism", then I'd like less of it, please, and more "believable" damage: a distorted and bloody red spot where the bullet hit, that doesn't drift around while you watch, or fade away after 60 seconds.
