We Got Cooking, Woodcutting, Mining, Farming and Smithing...

Post » Sat Nov 14, 2009 12:00 pm

Don't you guys think if we already have these 5 features confirmed...it would make sense to have fishing in the game as well? I mean if there are animations for these 5 skills, not saying there are btw, but if there are...how hard would it be to create a fishing animation? If this would be in, it'd probably be my 2nd favorite activity to do (smithing's 1st) and plus you could catch the fish and use the cooking feature to cook them.

Thoughts on fishing in Skyrim?

I'd be fine with it in or out. If they can do it, make it look good, and feel smooth, then sure, why not? If not, then it's no biggy.

I thought one of the earlier articles said there was fishing. Which if you can do whatever npc's can do mean you could fish, hmmm perhaps that was speculation.

I would love it if fishing was included in Skyrim. It would have fit well in Oblivion as well. The ability to cook and eat the fish if there is fishing would also be nice.(I agree with you though smithing is going to be cool).

In the latest Todd Howard interview

"...we have raw salmon and we have cooked salmon"
This obviously doesn't completely confirm fishing but its almost 100% in.

You can probably sabotage the fishery.

Cast a lightning or fireball spell, instant fishy sticks.

Well...there are fish and fishing communities. Im wondering how they would get fish without actually having fishing.

But will there be fishing polls to buy/steal/loot? It would be awesome to see the sinking lure as an easter egg.

Who needs fishing when you can dive with a dagger?

But seriously I really think fishing will be in, and the devs will know that if they leave it out it would be a pretty major thing missing.

From reading the transcript of the German interview it seems to me that besides the 3 skill based activities(smithing, alchemy, enchanting) everything else is just an animation. So if we want to "chop" wood, we walk over to the area a guy is chopping wood in, go up to a preset spot and activate on a block of wood, and then a small animation plays of the pc chopping. It doesn't sound like we actually DO anything, besides starting the animation. The only exception so far is cooking, but that sounds like we choose what to cook, then the animation plays out.

These have been described as neat little diversions, and that disappoints me. I was hopping we would have some sort of interaction. If they do add fishing, I will be very disappointed if all it entails is us clicking on a fishing pole to start a short animation of the pc fishing. If they can't make it into a little game(think legend of Zelda ocarina of time) then they might as well not even bother. That my opinion on that matter.

I understand that we will more than likely receive something after playing these little animations, wood for wood chopping, obviously food for cooking, ore or metals for mining. I jus think it's a little cheap, or unsatisfying, thats all. When I first read about these I thought it would be us swinging annex, or like a button press type deal. That's a little better, but an animation!? Seems the easy way out to me.

That would make it a minigame.
