Got a good laptop, runs well for 5 mins then poof

PLEASE HELP!! So my computer is rather new and I'd say pretty above the minimum requirements - not a gaming system but a decent laptop nonetheless.

Its an HP envy touchsmart 15 and its stats are:, i7 2.4GHZ, Geoforce GT 840M, 8GB RAM:

I've been running it on low (even though it seems it also works on medium) but after about 5 minutes of gameplay it suddenly slows to a crawl. The audio slows to the point of sounding demonic, the frame rate tumbles to near zero. Is this because its getting hot? Is the system just not as good as i thought? What's the issue?! Its soooo frustrating! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!

If you can play other games (almost similar to Fallout 4) and not get huge frame-rate drops after a while, it's the games fault.

I'm pretty sure you're below the system requirements.

A GTX 550ti is stronger than your 840m.

An 840m isn't really good anyways, only equilvalent to about a desktop gt 720.

I didn't know. I've seen a youtube video of a guy playing it with exactly my graphics card just fine:

(i dont have permission to post a link but just google geoforce 840M fallout and there are a few.

E.g one guy is pretty much exactly same as me and he's playing on medium, which i thought would be a luxury
EDITED because i accidentally wrote 850M instead of 840M

Also I should clarify I guess that 'good' is rather subjective. Nonetheless ive seen pretty smooth medium settings gameplay videos - like i said - all over youtube. I might also add that once or twice, when ive been superlazy in bed and blocked the exhaust for my laptop and its overheated, the same crashing weird noise thing happens ...until it cools down. Dunno if its a coincidence...

An 850m isn't an 840m, and is quite a bit more powerful.
