I really like that idea, Azileron! Any idea when you will have it completed?

wizardry games for the PC were also cool and had lousy graphics compared to games today.

No, wizardry games* had lousy graphics when they were new. Nobody was pretending that state of the art back then actually looked all that great.

* 6-8 not included. Those look awesome.

Also, old NES games were like, well into the 60 dollar range, IIRC. Chrono Trigger was somsething like 80 on release.

"I've been writing up new texts for a variety of quests in-game, in order to make it seem as though there are more quests and thus make it seem less repetitive, and this is one quest that I didn't just change text for, but also edited some QBN details, oh, isn't that tricky, and isn't this a long caption."

Could you also modify the quests to take place in different locations? Like, instead of all "Find the whatever/kill the whatever" quests taking place in dungeons, also make clones that take place in cities, and vice versa, where these things would make sense?

Thanks - I'm currently in the middle of exams, actually, so I shan't be able to do a terribly large amount of work until this coming weekend. I'm thinking of doing them by faction in order to keep it organised (I'll be starting with the Mages Guild). Hopefully, each pack should contain a total of about 20 "new" quests, although the majority of them will most likely only have changes to the text. However, it's amazing how much you can change only by doing the text!

Yes, that's one of the things I'm trying to do. Dave Humphrey made a large amount of progress in understanding how the QBN files, which contain every bit of data pertaining to the quest, function. Effectively, for the moment, what I'm doing is changing an unknown byte in the QBN files, then loading up Daggerfall, getting the quest, and finding what is different (a slow process, I assure you! :P). I'm currently working on being able to set the types of rewards given - after that, I'll certainly try to have a look into locations.

my first system was the atari 2600,so yeah,i know about $20 games. and they stopped giving you a free game with the system about the time the super NES came out. you can get a system with a game now,but they raise the price for one of those "packaged" deals,so the game youre getting is not free.

and i dont spent 9 months searching out every nook and cranny in a game. i dont max all my levels and abilities because im a dad with a life, and frankly, its tedius. adding an insane amount of sidequests may be cool for those that like a long game, but its no substitute for quality gameplay and storyline. im more likely to replay a game if im impressed with the design rather than trying to get replay based on how many spells you can get or how many versions of a thief you can play. replay value based on sidequests and level grinding is just lazy programming. i want to feel like im in the world of the game,i dont want to fall asleep in front of the tv while killing orc number 7,432...

long, detailed games are fine as long as they are exciting enough to keep my interest for the whole journey...

The saddest thing about the idea that great graphics=great game or that graphics matter in the least is that graphics always look dated very quickly, and I doubt that will change any time soon. Worse, if all that a game has going for it is the graphics, it may be number one today but in a few year's time, it won't even be considered or much remembered.

It's called progress, and while I enjoy the look of today's games, I'm totally convinced that by 2010 I'll think they look like crap.

thats not entirely true, I still play Morrowind (and sometimes Daggerfall) and think the scenery looks amazing, its only when you get really close to something that you realize how blotchy the textures are, but you can forgive it for the great visuals (talking about morrowind) and with daggerfall the graphics still look good to a certain extent, its just everyone wants stuff that looks realistic, but they ignore the fact that if games were completely realistic, where would be the escapist value?

Actually, another nifty way of taking Daggerfall screenies is by making a folder called PICS in your DAGGER directory, then using the \ (backslash) key in-game. This will then take images (PNG format, I believe), up to a total of ten. Note that if you exit Daggerfall and start playing again, you will start to overwrite any images, so be sure to copy precious ones to another folder!

Oh my god! That was incredibly helpful! I mean, the screenshot comes out small when you take it, but I just use Adobe Photoshop to make it larger. I'll have to make a topic with my character's pictures in it. Thanks so much! I've been playing Daggerfall since 1996 and finally, after 13 years, I now can take screenshots of my game.

I got in a conversation today with an old man who was trying to be funny by telling my Khajiit, a joke about my race. What is also funny is my response that fits perfectly.. and then his answer. :)
