We've got some pictures

Its been a number of years since Daggerfall has been released and you all must have taken a least a few interesting screenshots since then. But, if you're like me you fail at captions. So, I suppose this thread, could be used to post screenshots and witty captions that you could come up with.

I'll start.

Also plenty of purile humor, which is what the internet USED to be for before everyone decided to make youtube the most popular website by filling it up with videos of Ron Paul getting covered in chocolate sauce while kicking baby pandas or something. Dang kids.

I think I'll state more broadly, though, that fan sites seem sort of dead and I miss them. Form sites do not have personality. Blogs don't either much.

If you're using DosBox to run the game, ctrl-F5 captures a screenshot in the /capture subdirectory of where DosBox is located (C:\Program Files\DosBox\Capture) for example

Actually, another nifty way of taking Daggerfall screenies is by making a folder called PICS in your DAGGER directory, then using the \ (backslash) key in-game. This will then take images (PNG format, I believe), up to a total of ten. Note that if you exit Daggerfall and start playing again, you will start to overwrite any images, so be sure to copy precious ones to another folder!

If only there was a way of knowing if I was in for a fight!

Well, if you don't want to use the PICS method, then I guess you can just press your PRINTSCREEN button in-game, exit the game, open up Paint or another image-editing program, press CTRL-V to paste in the shot, and then save it. But that means that you have to close Daggerfall every time you take a screenshot, which is terribly inefficient. SO I strongly suggest using the PICS method.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention DOSBOx's built-in screenshot capabilities. Just press CTRL-F5 in DOSBox and it'll take a screenshot and place it in C:\Program Files\DOSBox-0.71\capture (provdided you did a default install). But I don't use this as it conflicts with one of my keybindings.

SECOND EDIT (to avoid double-posting): Here's my next screenshot. Now, it took me a damn few tries to get this one right, so you'd better be thankful!

what defines 'nice graphics'? Arena (which looks worse then daggerfall) had groundbreaking graphics when it came out, same with daggerfall, then morrowind and now oblivion.

i believe 'nice graphics' isnt a very accurate term.

but if your talking about when was the first fully 3D with third person and everything in the series, then that would be redguard in 1998 (?)

If it's "nice graphics" that you want, I suggest that you look into a game called Rogue. Admittedly, it isn't an Elder Scrolls game, but boy, I had to buy a whole new graphics card for that baby.

Okay, that annoys me. This "LOL this looks like a game from the 80s" sentiment. Why? Several reasons.

* Early 80's games that used CGA generally do look crap and there's no way around it. Games from this era had four colors: Grey, black, magenta, and cyan.

* Mid 80's games tend to be EGA. This is more mixed. You have crappy looking stuff like Ultima 4. You have pretty good looking stuff like Wasteland.

* Unless it was for the Amiga in which case it looked like an SNES game.

Anyway, the crappish elements about various TES game graphics:

Arena - They used pictures of real objects for some of the in-game objects, apparently. Why?

Daggerfall - NPC portraits in the dialogue menu. Eww!

Morrowind - NPC heads. Also grainy textures.

Oblivion - NPC heads. Textures that really aren't that less grainy than Morrowind.

The saddest thing about the idea that great graphics=great game or that graphics matter in the least is that graphics always look dated very quickly, and I doubt that will change any time soon. Worse, if all that a game has going for it is the graphics, it may be number one today but in a few year's time, it won't even be considered or much remembered.

It's called progress, and while I enjoy the look of today's games, I'm totally convinced that by 2010 I'll think they look like crap.

wow...didnt mean to offend anyone...seriously.

i like some of the older games with "crappy" graphics. if i still had the original zelda for the first nintendo system i would play it,because it was fun. wizardry games for the PC were also cool and had lousy graphics compared to games today. so,its not ALL about graphics, but i guess the way im looking at it is this: if im spending 60 or 70 bucks for a game that i can beat in a week or two,i better be dazzled by the graphics, music, and sound effects.

i can remember when a new game cost less than $20,and it was standard that a game came with the system inside the box. the companies are getting so stingy these days,im surprised they dont make you buy the wires separately. i paid almost $600 for the PS3. it didnt come with any games, only had one controller, basic hookup cables(not HDMI),and they still want me to shell out wads of cash for the games and other periphials. yes,the graphics had BETTER be good!

If you're going to beat Arena or Daggerfall in a couple of weeks and never return, then you're not getting your full of the games. We've been playing them for over a decade now. TES, especially Daggerfall is not a 'two week' game.

What are you jabbering on about? Traditionally games have always cost in the high 60$ at release, only in the very late 70's and early 80's are you getting near the prices you're refering to. And System software? If you're refering to the runtimes for their games, I don't believe thats a valid point.
