I got spawncamped in the first spawn of Container City, by b

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:56 am

Playing as Security. Managed to push through after about five minutes, but it was still annoying. I haven't even seen REAL PEOPLE pull this off yet, let alone AI set to the easiest difficulty. I'm flattered you think I'm a fragging machine, SD, but to be honest even I struggle with taking on 8 enemy bots because all my allies want to do is stand around with their heads in the clouds, soaking up bullets. Believe it or not, players go down REALLY quickly when 4 bots are firing on them simultaneously, especially when the only way forward is through a chokepoint.

This certainly isn't the first time I've been spawncamped by AI, and thank god I know how to actually aim, because if I was a total FPS newbie this game would be a nightmare. I don't dare try the harder modes yet, considering that by lvl 20 on Easy the enemy are all pulling off long-range kills with SMGs on full-auto and are coordinating rushes and totally shutting down all routes, whilst my ally bots STILL struggle to realize that the main objective is a LOT more important than those command posts, and that it's a good idea to not stand in one spot when things are shooting you.

/rant

 This is seriously my only complaint about the game. I really hope that SD get the message, sooner rather than later.

If you are spawn-camped, you are doing it wrong. just do the objective fast.

Well done.

My friend did the same thing at level 8 with Normal AI for about 3 minutes. He finally broke it by switching to a FRKN-3K and counter-sniping their 2 Drognav campers. A generous helping of Molotovs and Frags (he's a soldier) didn't hurt.

I managed to spawn-camp the Resistance with 3 AI backing me up for about 2 minutes while we were escorting the bot. I was playing Operative, and I had a Soldier and a couple of Medics backing me up. They finally broke free with a triple-Molotov surprise followed by a solid helping of 3 AR/underslung GL finishers.

Honestly, I have to agree that there are issues with the AI, and this story is a perfect example of them. And I admit that I got lucky with some events that happened early in the game to show me a few tricks about circumventing spawn-camping without actually having to be spawn-camped severely to learn them.

I've noticed that (As usual) the Resistance maps are a little over-powered. I couldn't pass the second to last Security mission in Shipyard (A Resistance map) with bots (Not surprising). One time I was playing as Resistance online, and there were real people on the other Security side, and we (In MAG words) "Red-Lined" them, as in we held them in their spawn for the whole match. Why do developers make the maps of rag-tag factions so over-powered? First MAG (SVER's map are over-powered in my eyes) now Brink? Brink's map aren't as bad as MAG's map, but it feels a little easier to defend on Resistance maps then Security maps. That's just my opinion, I'm not trolling.

Don't listen to some of the negative comments below. It is very easy to get spawn trapped on Container City. Even if you get the bomb out right away, it is still possible to get spawn trapped. Once the entire other team starts setting up multiple turrets facing the spawn exits, you are in big trouble.

It won't be easy, but a couple of Soldiers working together would be able to break that.

EDIT: By the way, I'm not trying to argue that spawn-camping can't be brutal on this map - just saying there ARE ways to get out. Even if it's an uphill battle at times.

both first spawns on CC are a pain in the ass and can be easily spawn camped. the Security can be camped by snipers, and the Resitance has only two exits and one turret that only fires if you actually enter the room it is in. At least Security can counter snipe. If anyone ever coordinates a spawn-camp against the Resistance, we are screwed. The Resistance spawn on CC needs to deeper and have a rooftop route that exits into the courtyard beyond the tunnel. The Security CC spawn doesn't need a new route, but a rooftop route that circles around to the ramp or gantry leading to the sidedoor wouldn't hurt.
I'll get back with more spawn info.

Again, any spawn camp on the Resistance spawn can be broken with coordinated effort from a couple of Soldiers.

And again, it's not necessarily easy or fair to expect it to happen.

To everyone harping on this guy Please continue, my good sir..

This game has some of the worst supporting AI I've ever seen and I've played Halo:Reach. There seems to be a huge gap difference in how the two AI work when it comes to your team and theirs.

And heres my biggest gripe about all this. IN A GAME THATS MEANT TO BE ALL ABOUT TEAM WORK...why the heck am I still playing with bots the majority of the time...and bots that seem to have no idea what the current objective is other than running to the general area to get slaughtered by the superior in everyway enemy.

Oh...and to the genius at SD who desgined the operative AI...FIRE HIM. The mission is Escort the hostage...why the bloody hell do I need to know you have successfully disguised yourself!?! Thank for serving absolutely no purpose in my game other than standing there like an idiot, dressed as another idiot.

Anything is possible! Believe that! Just saying, their is the very real possibility of being spawn trapped. The map Trenches in the Gears 3 Beta also had this problem, and is being redesigned to include an additional way out of spawn. The long uphill corridor out of spawn on Trenches makes it very trap friendly. Similarly, Container City suffers from the same problem. When you get downed in the spawn as you can in CC, there is a design flaw, imo. There should be a side flank where an operative can open another access to the Resistance side of the map rather than run into turret fire.

Brink is quite simply designed to be played with human friends not bots. No bot can help you do a coordinated plan of action in a Team Based game. You simply are not playing the same game I am if you are playing with and against bots.

Well then, can you tell me where I might find some humans? The most Ive ever seen in a game, and only one game mind you, was 7 on one team. Bots rule this game...humans seem to sub in.

I do this all the time. I'll head to the command posts, take them, firewall them, switch to engineer and upgrade them, then switch back to operative. "Catch up with you guys in a sec!" "Oooh, extra health and extra supplies!"

Not sure what your getting at here...are you pro or con on my little Operative rant? I don't mind the Firewalls and Human controlled Operatives do do pretty well but its the AI ones that annoy the heck out of me.

Honestly the disguise perk though is all but useless unless you have the smarts to get a serious drop on the enemy at a crucial point, i.e. a push or them just about to finish an objective. Most AI bots have no clue what theyre doing as Operatives but dear god do they like to tell me theyre successful at disguising themselves.

Its like a kid with a noob tube...
"OMGZ Guyz I soo rocks at this game!"
"Dude, you're just spamming the noob tube."
"But I'm killingz some many of dem noobs, they suxs lol."
"But you're shooting an explosive tipped, power boosted weapon at them."
"DOESN"T MATTER, I R GODZ AT THIS GAME!!! Your'e A NOOBZ, They're NOOBZ...I'm Awesome in my 12 yrs of glory!"
"Whatever kid..."

best advice i can give is as soon as match loads high tail it to the OP door hack. dont hack it but use the cut out window to lay cover fire. i use a chinzor and engineer class. set a mine and turrent covering me, and the gate is blown every time.

you can stay there untill the bot rounds the corner then you have to move.

Spawn camped...by AI...on easy? wow!! nades, teamwork and/or turrets didn't work for you? Maybe your teams AI on easy was the problem. I finished all missions (offline) on the hard level and never had that happen to me. It sounds to me the AI on easy were just playing to their potential...unless the opposing team were actually real players.

From what some posters have said on this forum (and SD forum), Hard Mode has the more competent teammate Ai. Easy and Normal have....er, very, very moronic teammate AI. They
always go for the Command Posts and rarely cover me if I do the primary objectives (if they provide any cover at all, that is) and the enemy AI LOVES to camp at primary objectives, lol...

I was playing Medium Medic with Euston and Kross, I believe. I would buff my own health, and the health of anybody else in the spawn, throw out syringes along the way and at least TRY to push by taking out 2-4 bots... who would just be revived again. Fairly sure I was the only medic, or at least the only one who was staying alive long enough to actually get [censored] done. I was using weapons I'm the most comfortable with, and I shouldn't have to change my class if it's just for goddamned killing and there isn't an objective involved.

For all the people essentially saying "git gud": I feel like I shouldn't be responsible for carrying an entire team of bots, especially on Easy, because the enemy AI seems to be just as skilled and tactical as a clan. I'd like to see you single-handedly take on a team of bots, essentially by yourself (and when all you have to advance through is a chokepoint whilst they've set up several vantage points), because ALL the friendly bots are either; dead, incapacitated, or standing around waiting to be incapacitated/dead... I probably fired about ten times as many bullets as all my ally bots combined during this particular battle, all the obituaries were "red killed white" over and over. If a few bots are all firing on you at the same time you can go down in a split second, which happens a lot considering that somehow enemy bots can fire ARs on full auto with dead-on accuracy.

The beginning of Container City is a shining example of terrible map design, and should be shown to all creative/environment artists as an example of how NOT to design maps. The same goes for the escort section of Aquarium. While both of these scenarios are breakable and achievable; it seems to depend on the defending team being straight up BAD or just not being there at all.

You can't walk out of a spawn when there's 8 guns pointing at the choke point, it's just silly. I don't care how good you are, or what "tactics" you are using, it doesn't matter.

In my opinion that's the point of the maps. I like the fact that you have to fight for something while playing as offense, while defense is having an easy day because they have dug in for whatever might come at them.

Offense IS supposed to have a hard time.
