Got the Magazine II

Did they mention ranged weapons? Bows or weapons to throw?

Beards?!!

I like having 20+ skills. It's the only thing about the game I'm actually worried won't be up to par, the levelling system.

+1, bring em back!

No classes, no major and minor skills, and only 18 skills in total? Where's the customization. :(
I don't know if I'd be too happy if the only thing separating my thief from a warrior is his "daggers add extra damage" perk or whatever.

There is a pic of an archer, so bows are a go!

Mixing Blunt and Blade seems great, I love the idea cause then I don't have to worry about what weapon I'm going to pick up if I want to be a thief.

I second that. Even as a warrior it will be cool as you could use more weapons now instead of selling / storing them...

Well.. ofcourse bows 'll be in em. We see a screen of a crouching (elf/human) sneaking upto a deer with a longbow. (Quivers on his back)

Just on the magic skills: there's a screenshot which shows that there are the following skills - Alchemy, Illusion, Conjuration, Destruction, Restoration, Alteration, Enchanting (followed by Smi..., which some people have suggested is a Smithing skill, but that's btw).

So, when compared with Oblivion, Mysticism has been replaced by Enchanting. But, with 18 skills, and assuming that there'll be six skills per specialisation (combat, magic, stealth), one of the seven mentioned skills is not being considered a magic skill. I suspect that Alchemy will be considered a stealth skill.

Mysticism was always something of a dump skill. Though it was fun to play as a mystic, a weird set of spells they had. I suppose it's hard to bring in new skills without streamlining older ones, otherwise you find it hard to choose between them, but hey, it didn't stop Daggerfall players.

I was freaking out too, and I'm still really happy about it.

Anyway, someone said earlier in the thread that when you approach an enemy, a dialogue box appears? Huh?

Also, water flows???? Like the waterfalls, or like actual rivers?? Does it actually say that somewhere?

Can we give direct quotes from the magazine? I hope so. If not, delete this. I'll paraphrase.

For those that played Oblivion or Fallout 3, your most immediate concerns about NPC dialogue can be laid to rest. Conversations no longer occur in a zoomed-in view of the person you're speaking to, and Bethesda enlisted far more voice actors to keep the repartee fresh.

Approach an NPC and a converse option will pop up. As they speak to you, the AI-controlled characacter will move about, occasionally looking at you, or turn away to continue a task like woodcuting or minding a counter.

Agreed, I spent minutes deciding weather to use blunt or blade for my assassin and now I don't half to ^_^,

Honestly, I think they narrowed this down to the truest form of RP be anything you want to be.

Err... presumably what distinguishes the thief from the warrior will be that the thief has high security, sneak, etc. whereas the warrior has high heavy armour, blade skill???

My guess is illusion will stay a stealth skill.

Merging light and heavy armor won't bother me that bad as long as the heavier the armor the less damage you will be able to deal with both physical and magic attacks.

It's all good my man! Although now I'm curious as to what other skills they've sacked. If the blade and blunt skills are now just one and two hand skills then I wonder what other skills are gone. I'm still betting on a single armor skill though.

They said there are waterfalls, whether that means an animation model like we had in previous games or really dynamic flowing water, I don't know.

But height differences mean that hopefully the water will not be all on one plane, like in previous games, where you had to lower your land to the water level, making waterfalls and upland lakes a very forced thing.

1. In the text it says that the dialog opens dynamically when you approach an NPC
2. Waterfalls - Yes
3. Rivers - I am not 100% sure, but in the screenshot it actually looks like the water flows...

The point is that you can be whatever you like with this, and your skills will level accordingly with your gameplay, but with less "micro-management".

I'd assume that follwing skills are merged:

merchantile and speechcraft
athletics and acrobatics

What 10 races were included in Morrowind, and in Oblivion?
