Hello there. I have been trying to get this game to work for some time now. I managed to get all the DLC installed and can get the game to start, but after I select new game, it goes to the first loading screen and then just crashes, stating Windows detected an error. I have tried various tricks that I've found online to tweak with the ini file and the game setting but the same thing happens every time. I used to play the original on my old crappy ASUS A8V SE with no troubles and I've had this laptop for about 3-4 months. It plays some newer games such as War for Cybertron and Borderlands and Bulletstorm just fine, just not this one. Here is my dxdiag, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

The game is acting just exactly the way it ought to do when the buyer chooses to ignore the official system requirements, and try to force it to run on a bad crap for video excuse from Intel, instead of a real gaming graphics company, sorry.

Ok, how about a non-douchbag answer? I wasn't looking for insults or I'd have asked for one.

Same problem I have Windows Seven and I find it rediculous that they do not patch\fix this error. I have recently Bought this game off of steam and downloaded it. I soon started a new game on my laptop. it came up with an error message. I have been trying to fix it for two days straight. The problem with bethestda is that they practiclly say "[censored] you go buy fallout new vegas" But i have already wasted $29.99 why pay more? I have Fallout new Vegas for Xbox 360 and have to say it is one of the worst games I have ever played. Bethesda needs to be more consiouss when they release these games and make them far less [censored]tier. Yes, I am saying that I may refund my copy soon if I can't get it running. My pc is run with windows 7, intel core and almost everything is what it came with.

Your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements to play Fallout3. It's not an issue with the game, it's an issue with your computer. It's not powerful enough to run the game, not even to start it. To play Fallout3, you'll need a new computer, or some upgrades (Didn't look to see if you had a laptop or not). So while you think the guy who answered before me was a [censored], he was right. Your PC CANNOT run Fallout3 and you should have checked first.





If you post your DXDIAG, I can help ya out. You say you're on a laptop, so you may be in the same boat as the OP with a PC that can't run the game.

Do you happen to have GamerOSD installed?
If so do a full uninstall of this program and try again.

I had the same problem with my system and uninstalled this program and FO3 works now.
This program (GamerOSD) also has caused people problems with Photoshop as well.

I use Windows 7 64bit.

Won't help in the case of the OP. His system doesn't meet the minimum requirements needed to run the game.

And even if it would.
to prevent crashing FO3 at startup force it to compatibility mode with winXP or Vista.
Fallout simply cannot handle more than 2 CPU cores.
to prevent game freeze follow that instructions.
