GOTY or not? : V - Skyrim

There's also 'The Witcher 2', 'Portal 2', Rage, 'Battlefield 3'... Tough competition.

Witcher 2 and Dark Souls are the only games I see as competition for GOTY. Portal 2 didn't last long and it fell short in some ares. BF3 is mainly meant for MP and DICE never has good stories with single player.

Why? There's so many that gets given out, and Why wouldn't Skyrim get one? Its one of the most anticipated games of the year.

It's going to face pretty stiff opposition. Mass effect 3 will be it's primary RPG competition, but seeing as how pathetic DA2 turned out (I cried at what they did to my beloved Dragon age!) there is a chance that ME3 will not be nearly as good as the last. RPGs have traditionally won out against most other genres especially FPS with it seems rarely win GOTY, and considering Bethesda has won every GOTY since Morrowind when a new TES game comes out i think they stand the best chance.

It will win rewards from some mags and sites, in terms of rewards for rpgs, it doesn't have much competition.

This. Battlefield and Deus Ex are the only real competitors.

I am sure some of game-magazines will give Skyrim Game of the Year, but for me battle for my goty will be between Deus Ex: HR, Uncharted 3 and Skyrim.
For now my goty is Deux Ex HR.

it won't at least not unless some huge disastrous force of nature intervenes. but they already said that they picked that date and announced it because they knew that they had all of the core pieces of the game in, and are now just configuring them and adding extra non essential content.

looks is not the reason games usually win goty, at least not from any respected group that gives out goty awards. graphics are skin deep and obsolete in matter of months, its the content that makes the game stand up for years to come.

It's possible but there are a lot of games that could win it, in my opinion it'll be between Gears of War 3, Skyrim and MW3. As long as it's not MW3, I'll be happy.
