45-70 GOV'T ammo help

Post » Wed Aug 11, 2010 9:21 am

Im sure many of you know that sgt. Contreras at camp mccarren sells atleast 800 .308 bullets and the gun runners do to. If you buy .308 bullets ,or i think .44 magnum works too, if you recycle the .308 bullets at the reloading bench you will get the exact material needed for Gov'T ammo. that being said 800 .308 ammo might be turned into 400-600 gov't ammo. However i have not tried this but, i am 90% sure this would work if it doesn't i am very sorry and am willing to hear other people's ideas.

I've actually been thinking along those lines, myself.
However, I'm up in the air as to where to get the cases?

I just buy every Hollow Point 45-70 I come across and use the Hunting Revolver on Ghouls and other low DT creatures.

Generates enough cases to make a supply of the good bullets for dangerous creatures.

I am very glad to see that I am not the only one who can't find these things. All told I have found exactly 171 .45-70 rounds and about 500 HP versions in 120 hours of gameplay.

The Veteran NCR Rangers armed with Sequoias or Brush guns. Pickpocket their cases. Zero fail rate, even with a very low sneak skill, and no karma will be lost.

Just don't get the idea to go for their ammo. They have 100 sneak so it's highly likely you'll get caught. This will get you into the toughest fight you'll see in the game if this stunt is pulled in camp golf. Lots of AMRs, Brush Guns and Sequoias pointed in your direction.

OP, the problem is there isn't enough casing to make .45-70

If the patch did fix up the vendor issue than it shouldn't be a problem.

The new uber-patch is supposed to add significantly more .45-70 ammo to the game, but I'm not sure on the details because I don't have a PS3.

Every 72 hours (in game time,) merchant inventories respawn, so if you're really hard up for ammo you can just buy all the .45-70 they have then wait 3 days and buy again (and so on ad infinitum.)

The patch fixes the ammo issue with vendors. It also lets you craft 50 cal ammo.

You mean 12.7mm ammo.

There are many weapons that seem worthless (the ones using the gov't ammo and the 12mm ammo) due to the lack of ammo. I have a hard enough time keeping Boone in .44 rounds.

...Why do I have Raul using a Trail Carbine then? Time to buy him a Brush Gun and mass produce the SWC rounds for him.

Edit: Yup, swung by the Hoover Dam quartermaster, checked his inventory and holy hell! 404 rounds rounds of regular .45-70 Gov't ammo and some Hollow Points to boot. Raul is enjoying his new toy now. :)

Give Boone the Marksman Carbine and some 5.56, with the rifles clip size and semi auto fire rate he brings hell on everything around him
really worked for me
