Grandchildren, Synths, and Surprise incist

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:53 am

So, the Synths are all cloned from Shaun.

....

Doesn't this mean Danse and Currie (in her new body) are your grandchildren?

Just saying.

It kind of puts the kibosh on any romance there.

:nope:

Or should but you CAN romance them.

You'd think this would come up in dialogue.

Yep. Basically every third-gen Synth is technically your grandchildren. Meaning Harkness himself is also technically Nate/Nora's grandchild.

That was a delicious twist for me. Now I have to wrestle with the fact that my character will have to decide whether she'll condemn her technical grandkids to servitude, or free them, or just flat out ignore/condemn them to death via BoS.

You can even summarize the oddity with the Shaun-Bot.

"That thing is not my son!"

Does the Sole Survivor reject that these are his family or not?

One of the really interesting bits of lore.

I just wish we'd gotten an option to mention it.

As if a robot could truly be family to someone, no matter how it was created.

Officially avoiding those two as romance options now, thought porking a robot was weird enough.

But aren't Gen-3 synths bio-androids and not robots? This would mean they are human just artificially created, like the androids in "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"

If Sole Survivor saw Cogsworth as family, he/she might actually be willing to see Synth!Shaun as family.

If anything else, my character probably wouldn't want to let a child (Synth or not) suffer for crimes he/she did not commit.

I don't know why they wanted his DNA, you would think they would want gouls DNA, resistant to radiation and lives for a lot longer without decay like the salesman who you talk to at the beggining who is still alive after 210 years.

Because it's easy to clone and not prone to mutation so it can be replicated endlessly.

I wonder if Bethesda really considered the implications of this....sort of creepy.

Huh.
