Graphic Enhancers

Post » Wed Nov 24, 2010 6:57 am

I'm looking for a graphical enhancer that stays VERY true to vanilla Morrowind. Is there one? If not, I will stick with original Morrowind. Not a big deal ;)

Graphic enhancer for what? There are a few thousand textures in the game.

I think Connary's work is very true to the original textures. Highly recommended. There are lots of great textures out there, though.
Taken from my Mod Recommendations thread:
Probably the best place to start is the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1103737-add-to-the-list-of-needed-graphics-mods/page__p__16150079__fromsearch__1&#entry16150079 thread.
Another great thread is the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=956115
Here you will find many links to many new textures avialable, and lots of information on using mods in general.

You can also manually search through the Textures section on PES, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.List&category_select_id=13 to find many of the excellent replacers that improve the visuals.

A large list of World Texture replacers can also be found at http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tes3Mod:World_Replacers section of the wiki.

Personally, I don't find any texture replacer can boast being 'true' to the original Morrowind textures. Some can get close and have a similar look, but in the end they've been created by a different person, with different tastes and methods from the Beth texture artists, and that rubs off on the textures themselves. I'd recommend you stay with the vanilla ones. They actually don't look at all as bad as some people make out.

In the texture department, Darknut's work is the closest you can get to staying true to the original.
In many case, he basically takes the originals and make them high-rez.

Connary is still working on his full texture compendium, which is going to be the most awesome and true-to-the-original texture replacer everrrrr.

Most true, not sure about that, but most awesome, I'm inclined to agree, one thing about the compendium that makes me most excited, is that the entire game will be upgraded equally, having all of the textures blend together seemlessly is why it will be somewhat true to the originals, because you won't feel like anything looks vastly better or worse than anything else, it will all just be a seemless work of art!

Which is why I am somewhat reluctant to use other big texture packs, because I'm always worried that they will just outclass the rest of the game, breaking emersion when I cross from a retextured area to one that isn't.....

There are a few thousand textures in the game.

4,594 to be exact, not counting menu textures.

I'd pimp my own here if you're not looking for hi-rez, but I'm being a lazy ass and haven't uploaded it anywhere yet.

My apologies. I couldn't find the description I was looking for. Texture Replacers would be more accurate. :P It sounds, from what I've read, like I should wait for Connary's or just go with the originals. Afterall, the originals aren't THAT bad...especially since I'm not big on graphics. Doesn't matter to me what it looks like for the most part.

I find that the Mixed Textures pack fits quite well with the spirit of the originals:

The biggest problem with the mixed pack is that sometimes the textures don't match eachother. Best example: look at any dock coming out of the water. You will see a distinct change in texture style and an unsightly seam because of it.
