Graphic problem

Post » Sun Jul 10, 2011 11:41 am

Hello guys, I'm new here so don't expect me to know too much :) Anyways, I have a problem after patching Shivering Isles from an older patch (1.2.0.. can't remember) to the newer English patch, version 1.2.0416. So the problem is when i load Oblivion i get a white background but the "loading" text is still visible. On the main screen, instead of "Oblivion" it is replaced by a white box where "Oblivion" it should be and my mouse is just a moving white box. At first i thought the game froze every time i clicked "load game" but i was wrong. I was able to load my saved game but... the game play was in purple.. everything was in purple but there were still shades of different colours of purple so i could barely make out what everything was. The game is still okay, everything is moving as it should be put it's just the graphics that is giving me a hard time. Help would be greatly be appreciated! Thank you!

Here is my DxDiag:
Card name: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: ATI display adapter (0x7145)
DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_7145&SUBSYS_00941025&REV_00
Display Memory: 256.0 MB
Current Mode: 1280 x 800 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Default Monitor

System Model: Aspire 5670
BIOS: ZB1 v1.3219 3B19
Processor: Genuine Intel® CPU T2300 @ 1.66GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 510MB RAM
Page File: 893MB used, 353MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

I'm assuming it's a graphic problem but could this be also caused by a mod?
p.s I'm off to sleep since it's late so sorry if i don't reply your request.

Running vista/win7? Have the game installed to the default directory? (Program files) If the answer to both of these questions is "yes", then UAC screwed up the patch installation, and you will more'n likely need to reinstall... OUTSIDE of program files though please.

That's not your entire Dxdiag, right? Your card supports 3.0 shaders, so that's odd. Try updating your drivers: http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx

The desktop version of the Radeon X1300 was inadequate to run Oblivion, and the Mobile X1400 is slower than the X1300.

Minimum System Requirements (real, practical, not Pie in the Sky):

* Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP/64-bit
* 512MB System RAM
* 2.4 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor (XP 2200)
* 128MB Direct3D compatible video card and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
( ATI Radeon X800 GTO, NVIDIA Geforce 6800 GT )
* 8x DVD-ROM drive
* 4.6 GB free hard disk space
* DirectX 9.0c (included)
* DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
* Keyboard, Mouse

The Pentium Dual CPUs have been drastically gutted out of almost all of the included cache to make them cheap for budget machines that aren't intended to run games, and are not like Core Duo at all, but like Celeron class trash. I can't hold out any hope at all of such a bargain basemant device to provide an enjoyable Oblivion experience.

Published Video Card Chipsets:

* ATI X1950 series
* ATI X1900 series
(The Radeon HD 2900 goes here)
* ATI X1800 series
(The Radeon HD 4600 goes here)
* ATI X850 series (the slowest X850 is slower than two of the fast X800s)
* ATI x800 series
(The Radeon HD 2600 goes here)
* ATI X1650 series
* ATI X1600 series

NOTE: the "Practical Minimum" ATI Radeon is the X800 GTO (or the 9800 XT)

* ATI x700 series (is slower than the fastest 9800, the XT)
* ATI Radeon 9800 series
* ATI Radeon 9700 series
* ATI Radeon 9500 series (does not include the 9550)

NOTE: the bottom end of "Practical Minimum" is the Geforce 6800 GT card, and my *performance sorting* starts from there on down =

* NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series
* NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT is "almost" good enough)
(The GeForce 9400 GT goes here)
(The GeForce 8500 GT goes here)
(The Radeon HD 2400 XT goes here)
* ATI X1300 Pro
* ATI X1550
* ATI X600 XT
* NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
* NVIDIA GeForce 6600 Vanilla
(The GeForce 8400 GS goes here)
* NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS
* ATI Radeon 9600 "XT"
(The Radeon HD 2400 Pro goes here)
* ATI X1300 Vanilla (Very slow)
* ATI Radeon X550
* NVIDIA GeForce 7200 GS
* ATI Radeon X300
* ATI Radeon 9550 (Worst two Radeon VGAs that actually have SM2)
* ATI Radeon X1050 (Worst two Radeon VGAs that actually have SM2)
* NVIDIA GeForce 7100 GS
* NVIDIA GeForce 6200 series (Extrememely Slow)
* NVIDIA GeForce FX series (Worst of all - Crawls along in slow motion)
