Graphic Settings Not Saving *FIXED*

Post » Mon Aug 17, 2009 3:23 pm

Ok, So, i usually like to blame steam for every problem i have when im launching a game through it. Likewise, when my graphic settings didnt change, i blamed steam. Now for the Fix.

**NOTE** This worked for me, it is not a guaranteed fix. If it does work, awesome, if not, sorry. This is only a temporary fix until there is a patch released.

Step 1. Right click on steam, load up your library,
Step 2. Click "Steam" at the top left, and click Go Offline.
Step 3. Load up Fallout New Vegas, change what you want in the graphic Options, then hit Exit
Step 4. Make Sure it Saved, Load the launcher again and see.
Step 5. Go online in steam again, Load the Launcher, it should have saved.
Step 6. Go have fun.

Steam FTL again... :D

This worked for me.

Any forum mods around should sticky this as I know a lot of people are having similar issues.

Had the same issue and it fixed instantly when I set myself to offline mode. Have a feeling there's some kind of confliction going on with online mode refusing to save the required data. Know that with Mass Effect I had to go to a special file in the folder Mass Effect was in to fix it. Took a quick look at the Fallout New Vegas folder in the Steam/Common folder and didn't see what file I should try to look at.

However with that said I can confirm that the graphics settings not saving can be fixed by going to offline mode on steam, tweaking the settings, and then going back online. As mentioned the instant I went offline the graphics settings saved themselves, tested it, and then went back online testing it when online with them being permanently saved for now.

This fixed it for me as well, so I started digging around a bit, I believe the issue is caused by the steam cloud setting. It may just be a coincidence since I have turned it back online with the cloud saves off and its working fine now.

OR you could do this:
1. Start Game, change your settings blah blah.
2. When at Main Menu, Exit game.

Much faster and doesn't require going offline.
EDIT: Worked for me.

I did it this way last night (after reading that some people were having this problem), and I haven't had any issues. Restarted the game several times, exited and restarted Steam as well, edited my settings multiple times, and at no point did my settings not save.

I also turned off Steam Cloud before making any saves, and guess what? I haven't had the save bug either.
