Graphical Anomalies using QTP3 Redmized

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:02 am

Hello. After installing Qarl's Texture Pack 3, the QTP3 Patch, UOP Compatibility patch, and after using QTP3 Reduced (by Bob Markinson), I experienced some http://img694.imageshack.us/i/screenshot1gj.png/ http://img38.imageshack.us/i/screenshot0jr.png/ I did do Archive Invalidation and after trying all sorts of things I think I discovered that the problem is http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/texturehelp.html (scroll to "Normal Maps Don't Match"). I tried to "Reset BSA Dates" as suggested but that didn't work. Things on this page looked potentially useful but many of the links are dead. I'm really at my wits end here and would like to know if anyone has suggestions. I can post my load order/system specs if needed (didn't think that was necessary).
I would really appreciate help because I have tried all sorts of things to no avail. Thanks for any assistance. :)

I just would like to add that I even did a full reinstall of my game/all my mods which I took extra care in making sure that everything was installed correctly.... yet, the problem persisted. I really have no idea what to do now and I'm becoming desperate. I don't want to be bothersome so I'm not going to continually bump this but any help is appreciated. If anyone needs any more info, then let my know.

Looks like artifacts to me.

How hot is your video card running

Are you overclocking it? if so, don't :) it causes artifacts and glitches in whilst gaming

Most updated drivers?

I don't think it's running particularly hot, and I don't overclock it. I'll try updating my drivers and see. :)
EDIT: I'll be sure to check the temps when I play next time.

I thought I would upload more screenshots during lighter hours to make the glitches more visible. I don't think it's GPU related because temperatures seem fine and updating the drivers did nothing.... I had this problem long before but it was easily fixed by an archive invalidation that I had forgot to do but the fact that nothing works (along with a complete reinstall) is REALLY annoying.... Here's more screenshots:

Once again thanks for the help. :)

EDIT: As described in the link to dek akm's website I'm almost certain that it's a problem with loading the normal maps. I've tried everything but the last one I'm not sure of. It says that it can also happen if "You've got a Windows file permissions problem preventing the correct normal map from loading, but this is pretty rare." I passed it off at first since it's supposedly rare but is there a way I can check to see if I'm affected by this issue? (since I've tried everything else)

Perhaps resetting the timestamps for the original BSAs? I had an issue like this when my texture BSA was newer than some of my texture replacers.

I tried this but I'm not sure if I did it right or not. I went to utilities > archive invalidation > then clicked "Reset BSA Timestamps."
Nothing happens when I do this except the border around the button turns blue. (I would then proceed with the rest of the archive invalidation after that) Is this supposed to happen like this?

IIRC that is what's supposed to happen, but you can double check and make sure by looking at the actual date on the BSAs themselves using Windows Explorer. Just make sure they're close together date wise and in 2006. If they're not, you can use a program like http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/filedatech.html to change it.

So am I looking for "Created" and "Accessed" to be close? (along with "Modified" being 2006, because that's were I'm at) Or are they all supposed to be close and in 2006?
(I went to my data folder and right clicked the BSAs and went to properties)

I'm not sure if it matters, but to be safe, I did it for all three properties.

Well I changed all 3 values of all my .BSAs to 9:15pm 2010 and 9:15pm 2006 to no avail..... :(
Anything else I can try?

Make sure that when you use the Archive Invalidation with OBMM, that you select "BSA Redirection", not any other option.

This whole time I had been using "Alteration." Switching to redirection didn't seem to help.... :(

Make sure you remove the edits after switching methods.

Also, depending on your installation method, I would recommend reinstalling the texture packs in the correct order.

Yeah I'll try a complete reinstall of my texture packs. If that fails should I try a complete reinstall of the game from scratch (this time using redirection like I should have?) I hope I don't have to do that again because it takes forever.
Thanks for the help.

I really don't see a problem anywhere in those shots, it looks to me like you're just seeing where two meshes are joining up. Bethesda didn't always do the best job of placing the meshes in the game, and sometimes you can see a seam where they join. If you read the original QTP3 readme, Qarl even mentions that issue. It becomes much more noticeable when you use highly detailed textures.

I'm with Belanos on this one. I don't even see the problem here. All of your shots look perfectly normal to me. The fort ruin pieces are notorious for bad seams between meshes though, so maybe that's all this is. If so nothing you can really do about it.

Yeah I'm starting to figure so my self but I could have sworn it looked better at some point....
I'm going to try a few more things but if I can't get it to work I'll just live with it even if it is a bit annoying.
Thanks for the help all!

Okay whew ... I looked at this thread this morning and kept thinking "I don't see anything." I didn't respond because I simply thought it was my problem with not enough coffee LOL

Yeah it's just the texture seams. I guess I just didn't notice it before or something but they kinda bother me now. At least I can live knowing it isn't a problem. :)
