Graphical issue (grain or parasite)

Post » Wed Dec 01, 2010 6:01 am

i do have this problem too on my xbox 360 elite with hdmi to my sony 40" bravia. but for me, what i do to fix the problem is exit to the dashboard then restart the game and that seems to be a temp. fix for me. i do run my hdmi as expanded and my tv is professionally calibrated, so when there is not any grain the game looks great, but when it does show up i just dashboard then restart the game and its gone.
I have Slim ..i dont have this issue..

I, too, own a Slim. It's been said a million times, but let me repeat it just once more, this is not a hardware issue, it's an annoying film grain effect.

Understand?

I wish I knew how to get it to go away

sometimes it disappears on it's own and the game looks SO much better without it

but that makes it that much more disappointing when it comes back........and it always does....

Hey dude. I suffered from this problem all through the campaign on my first attempt. I was running the game at 1080P on the 360 on a 1080p Plasma tv. I reduced the 360 resolution down to 720P and it seems to have fixed this problem. I've done 5 levels on my second playthrough with no grain/banding issues and it feels smoother to play. Just something for you to try. There patching the game this week, so hopefully they'll fix this problem but in the meantime, run it at 720P.

Ha ha. I jinxed myself, man. The evil grain is back! I've just taken down the helicopter on the Lab Rat level, started to climb some stairs outside and the grain/banding kicks in. Nasty glitch. I hope this one is at the top of the pile for bug fixes. Still, phenomenal game.

For some odd reason, when I play the game off the disk, and not install, I don't get the line issue. But when I play on an installed game, the lines come and go. I tested the opening level and the power out level and found this was the case. Perhaps this is their way of copy protecting to prevent piracy. Either way, I hope it is fixed. I like to install games to keep my 360 running quiet and less wear and tear on the hardware. It worked for me, try it out and see if you get similar results. See you online!

I also have the "film grain" effect with the diagonal lines all over the show. It comes and goes... can't seem to find a permanent fix.

How the hell didn't they pick this up during testing? Patch please!

I never found any problems with screen tear or game crashes whilst playing through it, I wonder if thats down to having it installed. I've installed every game to the HD since I saw what a big effect it made on Mass Effect 1. Plus the sound from the 360 when running discs is ridiculous. ha ha.

It said on GamesRadar that there's gonna be a patch by the end of this week, lets hope it fixes this major problem and not just some minor multiplayer glitches.

I just started having this problem myself. It's like little rectangles sliding over the screen, makes my eyes water. It's in multiplayer for me too. They need to fix this soon.

I found a way to temporary fix the "Grain/Static Bug" problem:

**Method 1** When you see it turn off your console. Restart the game, go to the Main Menu, and reload the Campaign Chapter you were playing from the beginning with "Repeat Mission". You will get the default weapons of the level, but the bug will disappear.
It seems to be a problem with "Resumed Savegames" in the middle of the levels...

**Method 2 (if Method 1 doesn't work for you)** Turn Off your Console. Restart the game, go to Multiplayer->Private Match, and launch a Private game with only you inside. Just let the map load, and go around the map. The problem should disapear (even on Campaign side, just reload the Chapter from the Beginning like in Method 1)

Let me know if it works for you. It worked for me ;)

P40L0, I tried that and it didn't work. After I beat the SP I erased all my data and started over and the lines were gone. Unfortunately they came back during the wall street section. This needs patched!

I started noticing the effect during the "road rage" level, and it just got worse as the game progressed (especially during the night time stages).

At the time I didn't know that it was a glitch, so I couldn't under stand why the game looked like sh*t. Problem is I already played through the entire SP campaign with this effect... Guess I'll just have to play it again. ;)

PS. I got the Xbox version because it was the "slightly better" version to get. Now it seems that I would have been better off with the PS3 version... sigh

This exact same thing happened to me. I completed the game the first time while having the scrolling line glitch in most of the levels. I started my second play through of the campaign, the lines were gone and all was looking crystal clear but then they came back in the exact same place as yours did (wall street section).

This is pretty game destroying. It appears in multiplayer and the campaign. And the more I progress the worse it gets. The screen is pixellated, edges are starting to blur and the clarity this game had in it's starting levels is non existant. Has Crytek recognised this yet?

Yep, I'm having the exact same problem. Diagonal lines (especially noticeable when looking at the sky) and this weird grain-effect... Really hope this gets fixed soon...

Isn't the grain part of the visuals? I mean you're looking through an electronic visor, look through night vision goggles or any other form of electronic visual aid and you'll see a slight grain like this. As for the blur pic posted in earlier posts that's the motion blur from sprinting right?

I dunno, the game looks fine to me, I think it's how some people have their TV's and xbox configured myself, fiddle with the settings and google "xbox hdmi setup guide". Your TV might be HD like mine, but they're still different at the core. My games look fine,my mates bigger more expensive TV his colours are way too dark, main difference? I took the time to set my TV and xbox up properly.

Some of the problems sound like dodgy HDMI cables which can also cause problems.

If you bother to read other peoples posts you will see why it's not our 360's! You don't get the visor effect in earlier levels and if it is a design design it's fecking awful!

add him to your "foes" list by clicking his name and then clicking "add foe". Foe means ignore on this site apparently.

I'm having the same problem. The grain seems like it's getting progressively worse. I can't even see the rain in the rainy levels anymore, just scrolling grain. It's gotten so bad in my game now that I'm just going to stop playing it until a patch is released. Reloading the mission doesn't work for me.. and like the others said, it's the game, not my tv.

Yeah, I was on my second playthrough but have decided to stop until a patch is released. It's hard to resist playing it though. ha ha. In the meantime, I've decided to go through Mass Effect 2 again now that the final DLC is out for it. Sweet.
