Graphical issue (grain or parasite)

Post » Wed Dec 01, 2010 7:04 pm

Dudes who have this problem, and yes it IS a problem Lorenso you rent boy, since I got an update last night the problem has gone for me, anyone else see this go away with the latest update?

I don't want to jinx myself or you guys but it is definitely gone for me now, so how come a dev hasn't replied to this post if they have fixed it? And they must be reading it to make the fix in the first place.

Can someone from Crytek please reply to this post acknowledging the fact that there was a problem and they have tried to fix it?

Anyway all is good my end for now, thank you Crytek, at last, its just a shame I had to play the last third of the game with Spectrum graphics...

If you're talking about update# 2, than no...this update did not fix it. The 'Grain glitch' has returned for me...it comes and goes all the time though...very aggravating.

Damn looks like its an intermittent thing then and it may return for me, so until you do fix it Crytek I take back the compliment!, I thought it was dodgy they hadn't replied to this thread though....

Ridiculous.

I suppose people who are experiencing the 'Grain' should post the type of system we're all using to help Crytek pin-point it.

I'm using:

250g fat 360 (modern warfare 2 bundle)
Sony Bravia Lcd hd tv
HDMI connection set to 720p/1080i

I'm curious...would overheating in the hardware cause this to happen?

Wow, I was actually coming here to see if this was e frequent bug (and it is, as I’m glad to see), but instead I get to read a rather amusingly combination of the most stupid and most funny posts in recent internet history. Great job, Lorenso.

Well, anyway, it’s a quite annoying bug, really. Completely messes up the great visuals and the atmosphere in dark/rainy levels. Thanks for the workaround tips from this thread. That should help me avoid it until Crytek fixes it (which I hope they do!).

I'm not saying it's the systems fault...it would help them pinpoint causes though.
maybe the engine reacts differently to fat or slim.

Anyone with the slim experiencing this?

Yes they are. Don't be foolish, all Xbox 360's perform the same and do the same functions on the same code. It is the game not your system. I don't why people think that the slim somehow is different performance wise. It's the same old Xbox 360, just another hardware revision like the many before the slim.

I'm getting this issue too...why are the developers ignoring this?

Lorenso...you sound like such an immature idiot. It's so obvious you are a troll as I don't know a single Iraqi that uses the word 'dude' let alone one with such a bad grasp of English as you claim to have. What's sad is that you are an American who spends his time trolling on forums and annoying people whilst pretending to be from Iraq. You really have nothing better to do? This is what you do to amuse yourself? How pathetic, I actually feel sorry for you.

Everyone knows that a bug in a game can be triggered by various variations which not everyone will encounter, hence how it can slip past QA. What's worrying is that so many people are encountering it and nothing has been done about it.

I and I think all of us appreciate any help, but we have been over your suggestion already. It is not system specific or config specific. It's the game period. Once again, we appreciate the help, but the only one who can really help on this issue is Crytek.

I too have been having the grain / noise issue. I made a couple of side by side pics of it when it is really bad and then when I got it to go away. It still ends up coming back as I play, sometimes after a few seconds sometimes after an hour or so. None of my other games do this.

I managed to fix mine by changing to 720p until I reached a checkpoint then back to 1080p. Sorted!

I have a 250 GB Slim and it started with the first raining level and only got worse from there. None of the suggested fixes worked and it never goes away - it only got more blocky and more wavy. Frankly, the game looks terrible it so muddy and dirty looking. I want to and could love this game but the MP issues and this huge blocky film grain and wavy lines currently is ruining it for me.

I wish Crytek would say something about a list of known issues, because I feel like trading it in - everytime I think about playing it (the campaign on the hardest difficulty or MP), I'm completely turned off by the grain and randomness of MP hits detection and/or gun damage, then I just go play Reach instead because the online just works like it should.

Since i don't have time to sift through 24 pages, I'll tack on this video link that demonstrates the glitch.
Two great evident pics and a video...what more does Crytek need to at least post a reply on this issue.

I will try your fix if you come back here from a day or so of playing Crysis2 and let us know that the 'Grain Glitch' hasn't reoccured.

Keep us updated John23

Lorenso your a gimp!

I too am having this grain glitch problem, noticed it first on skyline looking at the blue sky, looks like tiny rectangles, so i jumped in a private match on the same map right away and it was gone.... came back though soon after, this along with framerate issues are really ruining the quality of the game ;/

The solution to this is to lower your lightning on your game settings but rise it on your TV settings.
It works for me!

Are they going to fix this bug? Have they even acknowledged it or what?

I'm sick of this bug now. I actually don't want to play the game because of it. I'm deliberatly not playing the game because of it. It really does make it look bad, especially in nanovision. In nanovision it's just plain awful.

The Replay Mission "workaround" doesn't work properly either. First time I tried it, it worked. The interference/noise bug started again when I was halfway through Semper Fi or Die. Now the workaround isn't working.

What's the deal here with it?

I found a way to temporary fix the "Grain/Static Bug" problem:

**Method 1** When you see it turn off your console. Restart the game, go to the Main Menu, and reload the Campaign Chapter you were playing from the beginning with "Repeat Mission". You will get the default weapons of the level, but the bug will disappear.
It seems to be a problem with "Resumed Savegames" in the middle of the levels...

**Method 2 (if Method 1 doesn't work for you)** Turn Off your Console. Restart the game, go to Multiplayer->Private Match, and launch a Private game with only you inside. Just let the map load, and go around the map. The problem should disapear (even on Campaign side, just reload the Chapter from the Beginning like in Method 1)

Let me know if it works for you. It worked for me ;)

Hope it works for you too... ;)

^^^They better not say "screw 360" since like every other game this gen it will outsell the PS3 version 3/1.

Seems like a purposeful way for EA to once again show favortism to PS3 by purposely leaving the 360 version gimped. It's not our fault Sony makes backwards ass hardware with lack of RAM and a GPU with half the features of the 360's but we're the ones paying for it and it's an easy way for EA to make the PS3 hardware seem better by intentionally screwing up and holding back the 360 version.

Not just the grain bugs and such, the entire game has an overall cheap look to it like all PS3 games with low res textures, lots of jaggies, flickering on all objects in the distance, lots of pop-in and grain to cover up all of this. And I've never seen a 360 grain with this awful type of shadows but plenty in all my time on PS3 since early 2007.

360 is capable of so much more than this game even when it isn't glitching up. Just look at Bioshock, Gears 1/2 and Farcry 2 and tell me the PS3 didn't hold this game back on all platforms then tell me EA and Crytek didn't intentionally put this or leave this grain bug in to save face on PS3 after all their talk over the years of all versions being identical and the "power of PS3" bull****. There's better looking games on 360 from 2007 and this game would look so much better if Crytek focused on 360 instead of what looks to be a PS3 port to 360 with all these issues that PS3 games usually have. When's the last time a 360 game ran at a low framerate like this? I'll wait because you can go through the entire library and you won't find one UNLESS it was ported from PS3 in which even then the 360 version turns out better 9 times out of 10.

How this conspriracy theory hasn't been put together yet makes me wonder if anyone else actually owns both consoles and really sees the difference in what they both do. Because if you did, you'd fully agree with me on this one. Especially after how bad the PS3 demo was and right away Crytek and EA both scrambled to save face on the situation. PS3 games usually look good when they're very scripted, linear and pushing you quickly past everything as to not give up it's smoke and mirrors tricks. This game doesn't do that and look how it turned out on both consoles. We got a port from PS3 ensuring the 360 RAM and graphics card were not utilised beyond what the PS3's more outdated graphics card and half the RAM could do.

Yet they've said nothing about how awful this problem is on 360 when they would be scrambling to remedy the situation if it were the PS3 version with the problem. See where I'm going with this?

They used a high end PC engine and downscaled the product for the 360 and PS3; that's the result. If you just look at the first Gears of War on 360, it looked sharper than Crysis 2.

I really don't care about the 10 000 details if I can't even see them properly at a few meters away, because there is too much film grain, crappy depth of field, post process or lack of anti-aliasing. (well I resumed Call of Duty and Crysis 2 MP)

As a game dev, a designer, I once asked to our programmers what platform was best to develop games of amazing quality. They answered:

''In an ideal world with a team made of multiple geniuses and with a very long production time, the PS3 would be a better platform. In the real world, the 360 is a great platform to develop games.''

Still, I would like to see a FPS that really pushes the 360 hardware to the limit, but also offer smooth frame rate, clean and sharp graphics (unlike Crysis 2).
