Graphical G.E.C.K. Issues

Post » Tue Mar 22, 2011 8:09 pm

So heres the issue:

I understand the idea behind a graphics based rendering engine. When panning from one side to another, or moving through rooms, there are several portions that will 'disappear' to allow visuals to another cell or object (or room if its recognized).
I have tried... many different approaches to this issue. Even went as far as to get a new graphics card, thinking there may not have been enough dedicated memory... or whatever I could think of, that could be wrong. Nothing has been fixed yet and Im damn near ready to tear my hair out (I would rather not).
When adding basic clutter into an area with ANYTHING. ELSE. that could show up in the renderwindow, that clutter will dissappear.

Ill try to explain it this way:

Take the basic tutorial. Complete all of the starter stuff (creating the physical walking spaces), and begin cluttering up that one room that (when following the tutorial) is to be turned into a Raider Clinic. Now, when you load the Medical:OPAL set, the little render window that shows what each item you have highlighted looks like before you place into the main renderwindow, will not show the entire item. Ever. The little floor thats there in the window will litterally blank out the clutter item in the window. That, by itself, is not really an issue. Its when I place it into that one little room, and it dissappears entirely. When I click and drag across the window, I can highlight all the clutter thats in there, but 99% of the time, I can not see any of it in any other way (save for using the wire frame setting which is... just impossible for me to use). Unless of course, I place the item WAAAY out of the way, and just never manuver the renderwindow where any of the rest of the mod (save for the little piece of clutter I pulled out into the void) is in sight. And this kind of thing isnt just in that one little room... its no matter where the clutter is in the window. So long as there is anything else in there, I cant see the clutter. This makes its VERY difficult to MOD anything, if 80% of what makes the MOD is invisible.

If there is more information needed or if you need clarifying, PLEASE ask me a question and I will do my best to answer it. Its getting to a point where I dont want to MOD at all. I would rather the frustration not go past the usual amount that may or may not come from MODing (depending on how good you are at this sort of thing). Please help where you can with this issue, ask questions to help narrow down the reason. Something. Anything.

Thanks guys.

Try adjusting the LOD zoom levels in the preferences. I was running into the same thing, not being able to see the actual item but rather just a box that represented it. After maxing out my zoom distance though, everything seems to be visible now.

Hmm, did you make this cell from scratch or is it copied? Also try hitting A several times to toggles lights on and off. I know whne I minimize the geck, or open a game with it running or something, upon returning to it, alot of stuff is gone till hitting A.

I did actually try that. Along with turning several other instance type things on and off, hoping for the same effect. Something like, if I can force it to think on one thing, maybe then the rest will fall into place. Backwards way of thinking I know, but I at least tried it. Nothing happend. I will try again though. Maybe combing what Belanos said with that might help. Trying now.

I just restarded the GECK (something I have done in the past to try and fix this issue, and it didnt work then) and for some reason, all my clutter is visable. For now at least. Im not sure why this is occurring. Also, to answer the question, it isnt copied. I have been attempting to make what the tutorial shows how to make but kept running into the afformention problem.

Again, not sure why its all of a sudden working right now. Going to attempt to add more clutter. Stand by.........

If it happens again, try simply hitting "A" with the render window selected - especially if you have the GECK up and then load the game to test something. A will often reset everything in the render window because it has to change the lighting on everything, and in this process I find it corrects alot of wierdness.

The post did not read so clearly indicating that the guy had tried hitting A a couple of times.

My render window sometimes goes all screwy and most of the stuff is invisible and displaying like, in reverse. I hit A several times, and it fixes.

You could also try pressing f5, it reloads everything in the render window. Sometimes when the windows turns pink or something that gets things back to normal.
