When it says large textures or small textures, which is better? performance is no concern, I'm currently operating at half Anisotropic filtering capacity and 3/4 AA capacity. just wanna know which is better graphic quality.

Large is better.

Large means a larger texture applied to the same size area of a model. Therefore it is sharper and better looking, but requires more memory.

Small stretches a small texture over that same size area of the model. Therefore it looks fuzzier and less detailed.

The following is from http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_5.html

Texture Size: The options here are Large, Medium and Small, and changing them will require a restart to reload all the appropriate textures. Textures are the 2D images placed around all 3D objects in the game. A boulder for example is a wireframe skeleton in 3D, with a 2-dimensional boulder surface texture covering it (to see this, use the twf Console Command). When set to Large, the resolution of the 2D texture images used is highest, meaning the textures appear more crisp and real, especially when examined close up. At Medium and Low respectively these textures progressively drop, losing a lot of detail - see an animated screenshot comparison by clicking this link: http://www.tweakguides.com/images/Obl_Textures.gif

The name is kind of confusing. Large really means High Resolution or More Pixels per Sq Inch. I guess they are using Large to refer to the file size. It does not mean the Textures are larger in physical size on the screen.

Also, you may see Hi Res Texture packs come out for this game as a mod (they have them for FO3, so it is just a matter of time). They can double or quadruple the amount of Pixels used to create the Textures. However these Textures have so much detail in the same amount of space that they can approach photo-realistic in look and feel. These can drag down the performance of even a high end rig.

Bottom line, if your rig can handle it, use the Large Textures that come in the game. If you want to try the community made Hi Res ones, then be prepared to remove them if the performance suffers too much for you.
