Graphics replacers for weapons and armour

Post » Tue Dec 29, 2009 8:32 pm

Hi. I just nabbed the basic replacer mods for bodies and what not (Better Bodies, Better Bodies for Beasts, Better Clothing and Better Heads. Still might get Visages of Vvardenfell).

Are there replacers for the armour and weapons too? I don't mean like, new armour or any new items or anything, I just mean replacing the originals in a way that's like the original style, but higher res, or whatever.

Thanks.

PS: What head replacer does everyone recommend? Better Heads makes some people look too young but other than that is good.

Yes. The PlanetElderScrolls site has a modder named Darknut. He's got all sorts of textures for buildings, terrain, weapons, armor, etc. All very good and high quality in my opinion.

I always use Better Heads myself. There's also Better Eyes out there, which makes the eyes seem more realistic and actually follow your movements.

Thanks bryman... Is the eyes one good? It doesen't sound all that necessary (not that any of this is, I don't mind MW's graphics to begin with, heh heh.)

I'll search for Darknut's mods. Has he redone most of the weapons? It would be weird if some looked great and others the same as before.

Darknut's replacers are very good, virtually just a higher res version of the vanilla stuff. Its easy on the processor as well.

Personally, I felt Better Heads was always a bit out of place. I like NPC Replacer 3.0, It upgrades the heads to more realistic visages while maintaining the character and spirit of the originals. I have Westly's Master Headpack as well, to replace the crappier ones that remain with faces of my own choosing as they occur to me. For example, that Redguard on the deck of the prison ship now looks like Morgan Freeman so I don't have to see his scary bulging eyes as the first thing I see in Vvardenfel.

Morgan Freeman would be cool to meet right after getting off of a prison ship. He seems like such a nice man.

With Better Heads I actually thought Dayum, thats Morgan Freeman!

Does NPC replacer require the expansions or anything? Same with Darknuts? Do they have versions that don't upgrade the expansions?

Also, where can I get the NPC replacer 3.0? I found one place with 3.50, but I assume you have a reason for recommending 3.0 over 3.5 (bugs?)

Cancel that, the links broken... Also on fileplanet (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=661&comment_page=3)

It says version 1.1...

Any help?

They don't require any expansions.

I haven't a clue about NPC Replace 3.5, the version I have is 3.0, and I downloaded that over a year ago.

Here's the link:

Darknuts is just new textures and meshes. Obviously, don't use any replacers for expansions you don't have. You could google "Morrowind NPC Replacer 3.0 (or 3.5)" and compare. Maybe 3.5 is a beta version? Or maybe turns-the-page wasn't aware of the new version? I'm not sure, but take a look.

All the reviews on Planet Elder Scrolls say it's better than Better Heads and more varied so that sounds great.

Weird... that link I posted seems to be newer, have way more reviews and is in the hall of fame. So I think I'll get that... I wondering why it says 1.1 though? Maybe 3.0 = 1.0 and 1.1 = 3.5... Not that that makes any sense whatsoever. Wow, I just laughed at how stupid that was of me.

Also does Darknuts have a website that has all his mods or should I just do an author search on PES?

I dont know about him having his own website, but you can just search his name on PES.

Found his site... Has all his mods including something "enhanced first person"... Sounds interesting.

Dayum the armor is 108 megs and I'm on dial-up. I'll either do an overnighter or go to the library and download it onto a flash drive for that one.

I'll do one tonight...Which to choose? 75+mb faces or 100mb armor? I thiiink I want fancy armor more but... I dunno...

Dial-up, ouch. It's been a long time, but I remember waiting a few days for one song. Decisions, decisions...

Was it a 10 hour song? A regular sized song takes maybe 20 minutes at most (unless it's a Rush song).

It says Darknut's weapons need Tribunal and Bloodmoon... but I'm sure there's a way just to replace the ones that exist in Vanilla, right?

Do you guys recommend his creature mods too?

No, it was no more than 3 or 4 minutes or so, but this was also over 11 years ago. Not sure if things have changed since then as far as dial-up goes. Ahh, that's right. I have the expansions, so I don't always remember that. I'd say judging by his replacers that anything he does will be decent at least.

Edit: Do a google search for this stuff. I'm sure you'll find some replacers.

Anyone have any info on if I could use these with Vanilla Morrowind? Or would I have to hand-place all the right files tediously?

I found these links. Looks like plenty of replacers you can use without expansions.

Armor replacers:

http://gmml.pbworks.com/Armor+Replacers

Weapon replacers:

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=2010

http://gmml.pbworks.com/Weapon-Replacers

Edit: You probably can, but i'm not sure if the files are named to know which is which. You'd have to go through them.

Hmm, thanks, I guess I'll look those over but now I kind of have my heart set on the Dark nut ones... I wonder if Darknut would respond to an email or something?

I'm interested in the Weapons and Armor replacers... and..hm, maybe the creature ones.

Also that NPC replacer says it requires expansions but turns-the-page said it didn't. It seems like they would just replace all the vanilla ones and seeing as the expansions weren't there just ignore those?

The link that turns-the-page posted seems to only change MW files. There's also a New NPC Replacer version 3.5 on PES by ZeroTheHero, but it's not related to NPC Replacer.

Edit: I also think it's safe to say that if you DO use Darknut's replacers, your game will probably just ignore the expansion files.

Tribunal and Bloodmoon aren't "required," per se. Because it's just a texture replacer, nothing will go wrong if you use it with just Morrowind, it's just that you will have textures for weapons and armors from the expansion sitting around in your Morrowind folder ;)
