For computer users.... how many times have you had to upgrade your computers and buy new ones just to meet game standards and requirements?
Not starting a vs. war here, just saying. I own and play on both anyways....
I played Oblivion on a desktop PC (Dell Dimension 5000) that I bought in 2005 for €1200. 20" LCD monitor 1600x1200 (this was seriously nice back then), P4 3 GHz (room heater), 1 GB RAM (initially), Nvidia 6800 (hah, needless to say I didn't play many games at 1600x1200). I later bought another gig of RAM and paid €125 for a Radeon x1950 pro (512 MB) which kept things ticking over till recently.
Now I recently replaced that and my previous laptop with a laptop I hope to use for gaming, MSI GX660 for €1300. i5-460m, 8 GB RAM, 2x 500 GB WD Black 7200 rpm, ATI Radeon HD 5870 (1 GB GDDR5). I'm actually skeptical of the longevity of this, but so far it is just a dream. Ironically and bizarrely, the only game I so far got low FPS on (before tweaking) was Morrowind with the Complete Overhaul.
My favorite experience on the laptop in fact is Oblivion (seriously decked out with mods, seems to cope with throwing in the kitchen sink!) Really looking forward to trying out Skyrim on it.
Main advantage of the laptop is either playing tabletop (laptop screen), in the living room on a nice big LCD TV, in another room on the aforementioned 20" Dell Screen (nice compromise for a bit more space when I don't quite feel up to watching cave walls spin on the big TV) or indeed anywhere else (theoretically the train is possible - some of them here have power sockets at every table).
EDIT: Actually what isn't working out is this new fancy laptop replacing the old one - the new one is too heavy as a quick use "lap top" device. I've actually resorted to using the old one sans battery (the charging mechanism gets worrying hot and blinks madly as the battery can't hold charge). I guess in theory I should get a netbook, but I'm not very enthusiastic about it (given my mobile phone performs some of the random net-browsing role).
