A grappling hook

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:20 pm

The possible functions of a grappling hook could be as follows:

    Mainly:
  • climbing up ledges in mountains and wilderness
  • getting to the second or third floor of some buildings
  • Scaling castle walls
    also:
  • could be used in combat to hurt or trip opponent.
  • using conveniently located branches to swing across pits (indiana jones style)

I do want climbing. Im not a fan of grappling hooks, but if it meant climbing being in I wouldn't care!

Can I get an "other" vote option?

That meant I won't vote until I get an "other" option...

i figure climbing is the same as using grappling hook on things like a castle wall. If climbing is in, it wouldnt be like in daggerfall where you basically run up walls

You don't need grappling hooks to go up some walls, such as bricks missing or folliage gives a good handhold.
A grappling hook would merely be a tool that can accomplish this.

idk, grappeling seems more like a action/adventure thing to me, idk how well it would suit TES.
also, to make climbing seem decent/not totally laughable it would need to look somewhat like assassins creed, which i cant see happening because AC has a whole engine pretty much built around it.

Climbing was in Daggerfall. BRING IT BACK!

I say it would be awesome to have Grappling hooks... and more awesome to not need one, and just use my kittyclaws.

I don't care if it does look wierd, its needed for some stealth archetypes.
I for one will be looking for a climbing mod, just for any stealth character I make.

All the things you listed are practical and awesome. Who wouldn't want a grappling hook?

No, running up walls was in Daggerfall, proper climbing still isn't that easy to implement.

Simple, you aim on top of a ledge or building, throw it, and then pull it back. If it catches something, you got yourself a rope to scale up the side of the building or cliff. When you climb up, you pick up your grappling hook. it would have realistic physics and I just think it easily would feel likes TES.

Really it's that simple is it? I guess you could totally get this working yourself yeah? Because it's so simple to do?

EDIT: If anything, the easiest way to implement this feature would be to use some sort of ice axe, or equivalent tool.

Not simple to implement... simple to imagine... jeeze.

EDIT: you seem pretty sure that you know the easiest way. you must be a game designer or something.

I absolutely do not want grappling hooks if climbing isn't in. If climbing is in, then I really don't care for the idea

It's a yes, no question. i don't understand how "other" would be a viable option. The poll is for whether they should be in the game or not, and you can explain your reasons or conditions in the thread.

Yes means Yes I want them in.
No means No I don't.
Other means whatever I want it to mean. Particularly for me it means I don't care about the grappling hook, but we need some climbing. I also want climbing without grappling hooks to be possible, because there are other means of climbing...

The point is my view is not expressed in the poll, because my view is not among the yes or no options.

you would vote No then obviously, then express why you voted no, and that is because you would prefer to climb with hands.

not hard, really

No, because I do not oppose them being in the game.

Otherwise I would have said, No grappling hooks, but climbing would be cool.
Thats not the same.
