Post » Tue Aug 31, 2010 1:55 am

Hello guys (and gals ^_^). Could someone please give me a link with the grass generator thingie? Also, could someone please explain to me, how to add grass for an esp, so it actually is there? LAst time I tried (year or more ago), i never saw the grass in CS and never understood, what is wrong.
Thanks in advance, Cheers! :)

You can download the mesh generator http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23065. I've actually been trying to get it to work for over a week and I've had absolutely no success, so I'm afraid I can't explain to you how to use it. :^(

Here's a small tutorial that Zackg PM'ed me a while back.. i'm sure he has nothing against me posting it here:

Open both the construction set and the generator. In the generator window open the settings editor. Hit load. Now in the construction set find the region you want to generator grass for. When you are in the region open the landscape editor by hitting "H". Now, using the editor find the landscape textures that you want to place the grass on. Take note of the name they are given in the landscape editor window and find the corresponding one in the settings editor of the grass generator. in the grass generator setting editor on the right side are all the ground textures used in morrowind, so click on the ones you want to place grass on and click on add. The name of that texture should now have been lsited in teh grass textures window. (You can close the Construction set now, you dont need it anymore).

Now click on the texture you want to edit settings for first (in the grass textures window, NOT the default grass window). Youll have to do the following to every texture you select.

With the landscape texture highlighted in the grass textures window, click on meshes. Click add in the meshes tab. Continue to click add for every grass mesh you have. Lets pretend you have four of them, so you click add four times. Now four things appeared inside the mesh box. So click on the first that says new mesh, then click on select file. So now select the grass mesh you have, Do this for every one. Now, the sum of all four of your grass mesh must equal 100. So reclicking on each new mesh line individually, you can select its chance below it. Easily said, if you have four of them give each a 25 so it equates to 100. Obviously if you have a mesh you want to see more than others you can give it a higher number so long as you give the other 3 a lower number, for instance, instead of 25+25+25+25, have 52+12+18+18. Now hit save. Close out the settings editor. If you just want to generator on morrowind.esm then hit generate. If you want another esp then add it. To add every esp you have inb your load order hit the load button. I wrote this tutorial as I did it so it istn very well thought out, so if you have any questions lemme know.

Something is very wrong. I can't add the grass still... :/ Firstly, importing ESPs from morrowind.ini, doesn't locate mine, so I added it manually. The textures I used were also not there, so I added them manually. Did everythign said in Vurt's post, saved the new plugin as grass.esp and when I open this esp, there aren't even my cells there. oO Opening my mod ESP as active and grass esp together, nothing new appears, except the statics in static list, used 0 times each.

yeah the .esp problem is the same for me (i just downloaded it and checked, it doesnt find any .esp's).. I never used it for .esp's though, only for .esm's.

I had many different problems with the generator, like one time i think i had 2 .ini's one that it saved to but when generating it read from another (empy) .ini file. Sorry that i can't be of much help :/ i followed zackg's guide and eventually i got it working. It's now been a few months since i used it, so i don't really remember exactly how i set everything up.

I found the easiest way was to just edit the grass.ini file manually, then open the generator, select the .ini file and generate the grass, but meh, I'm used to looking at numbers all day, so looking at .ini files is just kind of easier for me.........I've only ever made a grass esp for my own personal hestatur addon mod though, which is useless to anyone besides me. heh

The generator sees no difference in the meshes, you can generate whatever you want. I wouldnt recommend using MGE to render it though (like trees), looks a bit funny with the swaying tree trunks.

Ahh MGE. such a foreign thing to me. Well, you made my mod grassy, thank you for that, a lot. I surely would have understood it sooner or later, but it could be much later, so asking never hurts. :D
