Grass, I hate you.

Why does grass still only render 20 feet in front of you, it's exactly like oblivion you would think that they would have atleast improved it a minor amount over the years. Guess not :/

I can only hope that the pc version will allow farther rendering distances.

pc will undoubtedly be able to render better draw distances. consoles are limited because of lack of resources and outdated hardware.

not trying to start a war here people, just stating facts.

Yea but i'm not sure about pc being able to render better draw distances because they barely could in oblivion.

It's not entirely console limited, but it course has partly to do with that.

Red Dead Redemption (on the 360) has about 10 times the grass distance than Skyrim. Then again, the grass in RDR is low-poly, but it still looks good.

So... I think Rockstar handles grass, literally, 10 times better.

Amen to this, you can look down from a freaking mountain in RDR and see grass in the valley below you.

EDIT: Vadager, I know a pc is capable of it, i've been a pc gamer all my life... I'm saying I doubt Bethesda's "draw distance" setting will go any farther than the xbox360 because it sure as hell didn't in oblivion. Stop being a smart ass.

I thought this thread would be about the fact that grass was there at all, or was too tall. I can't begin to count how many things I lost in the grass. Kill a bandit with a Daedric Bow in the grass, well good luck ever finding that bow. It was just really bad sometimes.

I do hope they fixed this someway.

Good thing there's more to configuring games than the in game options.

nope, RDR indeed renders grass distance 10x further but dont forget

the grass mode in RDR is worse than oblivion, dont believe me go play RDR,look closer to the class and compare to oblivion

and RDR is on 3rd person perspective, the bumpmap or i dunno what it call, resolution? of the grass is way lesser than in oblivion, since your character is always in the 3rd person thus you cant zoom in to view the grass clearly, with this they able to pull it off 10x of the distance

while in oblivion your character is in 1st person perspective, grass model need to be more clear thus the distance of the grass on the console is greatly limited

Or it might has to do with the fact that RDR plays in a desert with more scarce grass...

Not sure if serious.... Have you played RDR? There isn't an inch of ground that isn't covered in grass lol.

OB grass was badly optimized hopefully they have learnt from their mistakes and make it so that render distance is slightly better on console, and things dont just pop in 10 feet away.

Of course on PC i need not worry for modders shall fix my every complaint, bless the modders!

..what? You've apparently never played Oblivion on the PC because you could push back the grass draw distance by quite a lot, and there were mods to make it infinite. So yeah.

Maybe grass isn't Bethesda's forte?
Besides, you PC players get the good stuff. You can edit the .ini files. :sadvaultboy:

By quite alot I think you mean about 25 feet at the most. We shouldn't need a mod for freaking grass when a pc is easily capable of twice what they are giving us.

I don't disagree with the sentiment, this and rain going through objects are pretty poor issues IF they still persist in Skyrim regardless of what platform you play on.

..no, I don't mean by 25 feet at the most. The default max was about 100 feet. I can take a SS of it for you right now if you'd like?

You mean like how the Xbox has improved over the years?
Oh wait, it hasn't, it's the exact same hardware as in 2005.
There is your answer.
