Great, I'm a bard... Now what.

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 5:31 am

So it seems the whole bard thing has turned out to be rather pointless, no? Sad. Isn't there even a proper questline or something? I brought three other bards the instruments they had asked me to get for them, but now, for the exception of the dude training speechcraft, no one in the college actually talks to me any longer.

Is there really nothing left to do for this faction or in that place?

So I take it there really aren't any other bard college related quests in the game other than the three "find me that instrument" ones I did?

I also brought them there 3 instruments but gave up on asking for more quests. Its weird because the Thieves Guild and the Companions have many many many quests.

Great, on top of it, the three instruments are stuck in my inventory as "quest items" even though I already delivered them to the quest givers. I wonder what other quest items I'll never get rid off, no wonder I'm always short on carrying capacity ...

Three lousy fetch quests that were all the same anyways for the whole bards guild and even those they couldn't make work properly.

I had such high hopes for the bards. Basically you join, do three (bugged) fetch quests, and then you get some nice perks from the turn ins. That's it.

Freaking sad.

If anybody has read The Warded Man (really good book btw), one of the characters there can play so beautifully that it soothes even raging demons. Would be cool if you could do something like this.

Sort of an AOE effect while playing instruments that soothed/inflamed/frightened and so on, the beasts/people around you.

Just walking along the road playing your guitar, while now tamed wolves and bears followed you :)
Too bad i play it on an xbox seeing as someone will probably mod something like this... But here is for hoping bethesda :)

Being a Bard should be all about going on missions to various inns around the map; and villages to sing songs.

the perks and bonuses for progressing is more powerful shouts.

If they couldn't implement any actual bard content, fine, but I had hoped the bards college would give us "speechcraft" specific quests and stuff like that, basically quests that are a little more than: "Go to dungeon X, kill NPC Y and get me item Z." Nope, instead the only three quests there are the most simplified version of EXACTLY that formula. I've had more speechcraft use in random quests than for the whole bard thingy.

Was reading this earlier and forgot to throw in my support in hoping they allow us to play instruments and expand the bard college story some in the future! :foodndrink:

Bards are pretty smart. Probably the smartest faction in the land.

Viamo: "Hey guys, the guy in heavy armour and glowing sword wants to be a bard."
Pantea: "What the hell.. can he play an instrument? Write poetry, does he know any songs?"
Viamo: "Nope, from what I can tell.. he pretty much just stabs and burns things"
Pantea: "Riiight.. what do you think guys?"
Viamo: "Would it be fair to abuse him?"
Pantea: "Whaddya Mean?"
Viamo: "Well, clap him on the back, tell him, well done, you're a bard! Then tell him that he looks awfully adventurous and his role is to wander the world and bring us treasure."
Pantea: "Come on.. who's gonna fall for that..."
Viamo: "You wanna bet?! 100 septims says I can make him fight through an undead army just to get a book I was planning to forge anyway."
Pantea: "You're on!"

Keep the useless instrument playing mini games for Fable. If you're that desperate to play an instrument, buy a guitar.

'A flute to calm things' pmsl I'd rather stab the things you want calming.

Well it doesn't need to be mini games (actually I hope it isn't) or calming. It can just be something simple like LOTRO has... just the ability and then let the modders go to work. :)

Would be fun to create and dl songs to play on instruments (for me at least).
