Great Game but 3rd Person Camera needs to be adjustable like

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:35 pm

The 3rd person camera's distance from the player can be adjusted considerably in Fallout 3 an it will stay at selected position. It's very limited in New Vegas, snaps back to a closer position when LB is released. I liked Falllout 3 because it had plenty of user options and just an all around Great Game and New Vegas seems just as great.

Many users was hoping we can get this option implemented in the first patch, I like to see my characters full body from head to toes when running through the wasteland. Thanks

I don't know what you're talking about the camera always snapped back when you let go in 3.

I'm pretty sure the only thing that stayed regarding the camera on fallout 3 was zoom distance. The position seemed to always snap back to the same over the shoulder view when I let go.

Wait, is it like obscenely close to the PC? How close? I almost always play in third-person view, switching only occasionally to first for a few seconds to pick up a few things or better see... whatever. One thing I hated was the view pulling back to an extreme after sitting in a chair, Sandman'ing a victim, eating a corpse etc. If that now pulls back only marginally, I'll prefer it.

I COMPLETELY agree! Fallout 3's adjustable camera was really great. it's frustrating that NV's isn't the same.

This is my only problem with the PC version also, I hate the camera max zoom just down to my knees, why did they remove the fallout 3 zoom distance anyway?

I want it back in please.

You can try to make a mod request in the mods section. But then since you already don't like it then someone else probably doesn't like it either. Also, I'm pretty sure Saiden Storm made the mod that corrected Fallout 3's horrendous over the shoulder camera view for third person, maybe if we are lucky he will do it for new Vegas.

I'm totally wit you! I miss f3 third person camera since I play most of the game that way and with free aim instead of vats.

How can I fix this 3rd person camera???? It's driving me NUTS!!! I don't even want to play it now.

I can't stand looking at my character over over the shoulder, it's rediculous.

Same as in FO3, there's a toggle key. It's "meant" to be played first person, but as in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout 3 - the toggle remains available.

I don't know why anyone plays F3 and NV in 3d person....... the quality is heavily diluted when not in first person.

I find 3rd person ruins immersion. In first person I don't get to see my character's outfit, look or anything and it feels like I'm playing as nothingness.

Also I find it disorienting and hard to judge distances so can end up walking into a corner and have trouble getting out

I normally switch between the two depending on what I am doing at the moment. New Vegas however, is currently nearly unplayable in third person view. To put it mildly, the view is horrendous.

That is currently my only complaint about the game, aside from that, I love it so far.

Can someone explain the issue with the 3rd person view to me properly? I don't mind playing it and seeing the character 'sliding' over the environment and regularly switching to VATS but cannot enjoy it in 1st person view (unless I need to do it for combat)

I highly suggest that we incorporate the 3rd person camera from Fallout 3 it was one of the things that worked nicely.

its both, like in just about all bethesda published games. they give people the option to choose because most people like being able to switch between.

Agreed, I have played for around 20 hours and not being able to lock the camera is crazy.

I disagree. It's not really a viable option for console as you can't really hold a button and swing the camera around as you're moving. I often have a look around without turning my character as s/he's running, with the third-person view. I was introduced to Fallout 3 on Xbox 360, and played entirely in first-person for two play-throughs. I gotta say, FPSs and console controllers ain't my bag baby. S'too slow. It's probably true - for me - of third-person on pad too. I built a PC to play Fallout 3, and playing in third-person on my second (PC) play-through, honestly, it's like playing a different game.

Close to the shoulder third-person is a great option, seperates me from the character, I don't feel quite so attached so as to BE the character, it's more like uh, guiding Lara Croft through a Tomb Raider adventure or something, only Lara Croft is a character I created, and I'm more invested in the character's adventure. Like most recent RPGs. Hard to explain I guess, but the difference is extremely apparent to me. I only play in third-person. But I do switch occasionally to first to, as I said, pick up a few itmes or just have a look around. It is very occasional, I do that though.

Edit - I should say I rarely use VATS too. 12thMonkey's post just kinda prompted me to add. XD

I play the game 3rd person mostly because in 1st it feels like I'm wearing blinders. It's hard to see what's to the sides and above and below with the view constrained in that way.
I use VATS mostly, so 3rd person doesn't alter gameplay much at all, except to give me a more natural view of what's around my character, instead of just a narrow tunnel.
If you found the 3rd person in FONV to be uncomfortable, as did I, there's already a mod for it in the modding section of the forums. I downloaded it last night, plugged it in, and it's working like a charm. It moves your character to center, and pulls the camera back a little. I'd recommend at least having a look.

Yes but when you let go of L2 (PS3) it snaps to a locked position. I wish it was like in F3 where you can adjust the camera zoom in 3rd person and keeping it like that.
