Great Game but 3rd Person Camera needs to be adjustable like

Post » Wed Dec 23, 2009 8:34 am

I normally switch between the two depending on what I am doing at the moment. New Vegas however, is currently nearly unplayable in third person view. To put it mildly, the view is horrendous.

That is currently my only complaint about the game, aside from that, I love it so far.

Oddly this is the first Bethesda game I find acceptable in third-person. Obsidian really got rid of that "floating on the ground" feeling, and I wonder if limiting the zoom has something to do with that.

The 'improved over the shoulder view' seems like a sop for the FPS junkies. The F3 view allowed you to get a better look at your character, due to the distance you could pan back, and this allowed better peripheral vision, so to speak. I much preferred it.

I know people will disagree with me, but it is an RPG, not an FPS.

Agreed, They should give us users the option to lock the camera like Fallout 3. I like to see my player from his feet up to check out his outfits.

I don't know what you're talking about the camera always snapped back when you let go in 3.

After a certain point yes. You were able to see you characters full body in FO3. In NV you can only see a certain amount.

Is this system specific? Because unless I've just lost it, I have been able to zoom in and out and keep it at that zoom level in third person just like in FO3, haven't noticed a difference.

For the pc just click the ~ key and enter in a specific command...i saw it on this forum but I dont remember it. It should allow you to pull back the camera like in FO3.

I dont bother and just hold down the F key to pull the camera back.....

Agreed with OP. The camera could do without the snap back to a certain distance. Fallout 3 didn't have it, and so far it's the only thing that could be considered even near a complaint. Not overly important, but it might be nice to have.

The 3rd person camera's distance from the player can be adjusted considerably in Fallout 3 an it will stay at selected position. It's very limited in New Vegas, snaps back to a closer position when LB is released. I liked Falllout 3 because it had plenty of user options and just an all around Great Game and New Vegas seems just as great.

Many users was hoping we can get this option implemented in the first patch, I like to see my characters full body from head to toes when running through the wasteland. Thanks

Who in their right mind plays this in 3rd person? Do you actually want to look at the awful animations constantly?

Im kinda bummed about this. I like to roam in 3rd person and then go into 1st person when indoors or fighting. I like seeing my character and what they are wearing. Now I cant really zoom out.

There is a mod on the Nexus that allows you to pull the 3d person camera much further out.

I don't know if anyone noticed this, either, but if you zoom all the way out and then position the camera directly overhead, the camera will pivot to the right, making it appear as if your character is walking to the upper left hand corner of the screen (from an aerial view). It's an interesting view, I suppose, but I'm not convinced that it's intentional as it makes navigation a little trickier.

As a shot in the dark, I'd guess this was a removed feature (that wasn't entirely removed). Perhaps they were trying to implement an isometric camera option for the fanatics of FO1 and FO2 who didn't like the change to 1st/3rd person.

I agree. I think they should update it in a patch, It's not like it will upset players or stop them from doing something. It's harmless and lets other gamers have an option.

Sometimes I just need to go out into third person view and view the world or my armour.
