Great Game horrible character creation

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 7:33 pm

BTW, the elf presets are indeed horrible, but you can customize them to look reasonably 'elven', classically speaking. See http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/631856881876705040/18E2B16976479303D8F05D24F2A2D223B2E8D0B9/, which is not that cool compared to some other Bosmers I've seen.

Again, opinion devalued. Especially because you failed to take into consideration customization is a higher priority for MULTIPLAYER games, because other people will actually see this. Customization makes it so everyone else can appear even remotely different from everyone else. In a single player this isn't necessary.

Yet again, go back to your JRPGs and morphing Skyrim/TES games into something they're not with your anamorphic blobs of KAWAII.

Is AiTenshi1 not allowed to make anime characters in Skyrim?

If you don't want to have an anime-looking character running around slaying dragons, that's cool. Some, however, do. Why? Because they want to have fun.

Don't get me wrong, I make my characters look like they actually fit into lore, but I respect and understand the desire of those who want to have characters with animal parts in their games.

Elves aren't supposed to be pretty in the eyes of humans. This is not Lord of the Rings. Elves are a completely different race of beings, of course they look "alien" to us.
The OP made me cringe. Come on, are you serious?

Exactly this^ What the OP said about that made no sense whatsoever.

imo the character looks 10x more natural than when you made a character in oblivion (vanilla). 90% of the time when you tried to make a cool looking char in oblivion it comes out you're looking like a clown at the end (except when you use mods ofc). :P

I feel as if I am picking a pre-set rather than creating a totally new character.

This is what I have been saying this whole entire time.

Here is my thing. Elves look great, especially Dark Elves they are back to their Morrowind esque roots.

Wood Elves also look great every time I saw a wood elf they always had that cool martian far out alien look.

High Elves, I thought were fair and beautiful. Like elves we're more use to.

Nords are the better of the character customization.

What happened to the Breton? They comment that the Breton is from High Rock. Well then....um it makes no sense for my Breton to look like a grizzled 35 year old homeless mountain man. Breton's are suppose to be fair skinned and fair haired, beautiful and snooty. Why don't they look more noble? More regal.

They didn't put effort into some of the races and it shows.

They also didn't put any effort into a full customization.

It's sad when a game, and yes stone me now because I'm bringing out a different game from a different genre ooo, like Soul Calibur 4 or even Aion has better customization than a console game.

My favorite aspect of a game, and the reason I play Western RPGs is for the fact of making my character. I like to create the vision of the character in my head. And I don't get that feeling I did in Oblivion. I have had to restart Skyrim over and over and over again because I am not satisifed visually with my character because it doesn't fit what I had envisioned.

Yes, I agree a game will not have everything I want. But I certainly hope it at least has a few things.

I'm sorry, but after seeing your avatar I couldn't read your post with a straight face, and it wasn't for lack of trying.

 hahaha I swear Id hate to imagine what the characters of Skyrim would look like if some of these people took Vsion's job

A lot of you guys seem very stuck on the "pale skin and beautiful" thing. Heh

Bretons are described as so.

As stated Dark Elves look perfect very Morrowind eseque.

High Elves were suppose to be a bit prettier

Wood elves look alien which makes them awesome

Nords were also described as pale and fair haired

Redguards were suppose to be rogues, so why is the first redguard preset a man on steroids?

Argonians are cool

Khajits also got upgraded

Orcs as well, and they look bad ass enough for me to want to play them

----

Only a few races do I feel are lacking. *cough Breton cough*

I use to love the Breton. But with no age slider, I cannot make a curious enchanting youth with magic. Who's regal and noble.

I don't mind the character creator much in here, sooooo much easier to make a remotely attractive character than it was in oblivion. (for me anyway)

Thats not saying such. Bethesda has always fallen short in this department. I've seen mods uploaded from players that completely blow anything Bethesda has produced away. Theres a guy who has created several face mods for NV that I wish Bethesda would hire. His work is simply amazing. I'll see if I can find a link later.
But this time it won' be needed much as the game already allows plentyof combinations and for first time the characters do look great , the system that you can also vary the size of yoru characters is also great ...

and the imperials find more gold :D tho it's really poor amounts so I'd hate to see how much it is for everyone else

*bangs head on f-ing keyboard*

"Where you come from Breton? High Rock. I'll make sure your remains are sent there in your name"

That would mean the Breton wouldn't be living the rugged lifestyle that [censored] Nord would. And even still it goes against their lore to make them rugged and tough. Does no one get this? At all?

While I will admit the overall range of the sliders is significantly reduced compared to oblivion. The overall appearance of the characters I've been able to create in skyrim, however, look far superior than any I could come up with in oblivion.

Haven't made a character of each race yet but of the ones I have, my Breton mage for starters has the lightest skin tone I could get and I did try to get her to look as attractive as I could (cheek settings are really hard to get to look right for some reason) so in my opinion she does indeed fall under pale-skinned and beautiful. My Imperial is probably one of the most handsome male characters I've ever managed to make and would probably turn a few heads in reality, plus with an ever-growing speechcraft skill this guy could eventually sway the masses if he wanted. Khajiit and Argonians don't need to have a character made to see how much they've improved since oblivion which is nice as I've actually made the Khajiit rogue I always tried making in oblivion and gave up after spending hours at the character creator. As for the elves, I will say while I probably won't make a Bosmer or Dunmer any time soon, the Altmer I made reminds me of something from the Warhammer Fantasy universe with a slight yellow tint to his skin. Which is awesome in my opinion. Can't wait to get him into elven and glass armors with the appropriate greatsword. Will feel like I'm playing one of the mighty Swordmasters of Hoeth.

Also, for the age slider complaints. It is still in there, it's just called the complexion slider now with the far left being rather smooth faced and the farther right getting progressively more wrinkles. Not nearly as much variation in ages but the age slider is there, just under a different name.

And if the character creation options aren't enough for you right now, well then I can only say wait for the construction kit, someone is bound to make more options. And if the anime/manga ones don't do it for you (I'm not too fond of them myself and will be avoiding them if possible) then wait for someone to do more lore-friendly options, or you could always learn how to make them yourself.

It's a big improvement from Oblivion *no more banana men yay*... Now if only they kept the age slider, the hair length slider, added more eye colours *Altmer eyes are... Are they sick or something? No blue eyes??! *, and got rid of the brow ridge on Elves, like so: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29

Complexion slider does [censored]. Way to go it makes him look 30 years old. I want younger.

When I RP I like making various characters with various ages, with various stories.

Making a character look younger than even the lowest complexion setting has nothing to do with an age slider then as the minimum is pretty much the "no complexion change" setting. To make something younger would need an entirely new face option that actually looks younger, in which case I will admit that would be something bethesda left out then.

The best thing about the new character generation/creation system is that it's managed to make every NPC look believable. This was something sorely missing in the previous game, thanks to a system that allowed for wild deviation. I prefer the Skyrim system, and have had no problem creating the character I want.

Age slider.

In Oblivion I achieved making a character that looked "believable" enough and looked like a young boy, about 18.

I think it's better than all their other games.

I was actually able to make a guy who looks almost exactly like me; including my beard style!

I love the game, just as I have enjoyed all of the Elders Scroll Games. However, Bethesda must have the worst artists in the world to create the character images. I play the game and enjoy it until I look at my character and want to throw up! It is really off putting. What is the point of striving for nice armor if you put it on this horrible creature that is your char?
OK, some people like ugly looking chars but heck, can't there be just ONE good looking one for each class in the bunch?

The elves all look like aliens and look like they have bitten into a lemon and try real hard to look like the devil.
chose eyes - you can have two 'blind' white holes, two black holes, left eye blind, right eye blind, bloodshot red eye period
noses- you have overly large nose, you have giant nose, you have large knobbly nose, you have tiny flat nobbly nose, you have long skinny nose running straight down from forehead, period
etc etc etc

I guess the artists making the chars are sons/daughters of the bosses and had to be put to work on something and nobody dares say anything in the co.
It svcks!

The only reasonable ones are Nord and perhaps Redguard. But if you want to be a mage or Rogue you are stuck with aliens!

http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/318/4/5/the_races_of_skyrim_by_skytheory-d4g5icv.jpg None of those look good enough for you?

I don't like the limited options on the elf eyes either, but you can still make a pretty nice character. Either you're expectations for your character's looks are outside the realm of Skyrim (you won't find a Dragon Age-looking character in this game, etc.) or you aren't spending enough time in the character creator. Still don't get why you think you must be an "alien" to play a mage or rogue though.
