Great Khan Encampment

Post » Sat Sep 25, 2010 4:28 pm

Who thought it would be a good idea to make it extremely difficult to get to a small "encampment" of three people?
It was ridiculous trying to get to this. I only found out how to get there by checking the Fallout wiki. if I hadn't I might have never found it.

It's not hard. All you need to do is cross Quarry Junction or just climb that small slope to the left xD

nope. invisible walls. Only way I was able to get there was following the arrow after starting from Vault 19's entrance. trying to get there any other way is impossible.

Also, why does Melissa have an Australian accent? That's weird. Especially since her father has an American accent. I know people could still be traveling by boat, but if that's her father, why would she have an Australian accent?

I see now. Got this confused with the makeshift encampment. They're well placed, really. Ain't no-one gonna screw with 'em!

Except maybe the occasional curious Deathclaw.

Edit: Melissa does not have an Australian accent thank you very much Zoe Bell is a New Zealander and that is a New Zealand accent not an Australian one! Ahem. Anyway,
Spoiler
isn't it mentioned that she takes after her mother?

Not true, I've walked to it by a slope near it.

Takes two to make a baby. Her mom is obviously Australian, the only thing wrong here is her dad didnt wrap it before he capped it. :spotted owl:

I really can't tell the difference, sorry, I just assumed it was Australian. It's like trying to tell the difference between a Canadian accent and an American one. They sound pretty much the same.

If that's her biological father, the only way I see it that she could have a New Zealand accent is if he was living in New Zealand with them after coming from America and then he came back to America with them. It's a small detail anyway it just struck me as odd. I realize it's not a big deal.

I made the mistake of saying that when a group of us visited a "red neck" sort of bar in Medicine Hat, Alberta , Canada! !!!

Looking back it was good practice for dealing with Deathclaws, tactics used, 180 degree course change then RUN!!!

New Zealand is part of Australia, isn't it?

You're lucky you included the small print

Really, though, I have no idea why they made Melissa a New Zealander. There's a general lack of other accents, Raul being the only other one I can think of off the top of my head, so why pick someone from a country so far away? On top of that, it's just making me ask a whole lot of questions, like why is her backstory not divulged more? She obviously grew up in New Zealand, so why move to America? And how? Vertibird? Does Melissa have Enclave connections? Or was it a boat? Do boats capable of such a distance even exist? Is the accent just a mutation?? :ahhh:

On topic: the safest route is from the powder gangers Vault over the hills towards Goodsprings, as you'll only face 4 -5 ordinary deathclaws and 2 baby ones all with a good long LOS to.

Irish and Brits have been in FO games ( note mostly 3 ), I assume this was done for Lol's and character, as to keep their accent an Enclave of the country they're from would have to be around for all those years, with no real conection to the rest of the wastes.
More likely they came over at some point, after the wars just as IRL people have allways sought new better lands.

The Khans however are a society on the move for years, adapting and evolving, my guess is that those speech patterns would be they're native tongue before long.
( I know Mellisa is an initiated Khan, but her voice is just the same as many of the other Khans )

Off Topic: A New Zealand accent when strong ( hers is not ), sounds nada like an aussie one, more a quite nasal scotsman who lost his R's rolling talent.

I started watching a NZ film comedy and the girls accent threw me off for ages, I had to keep rewinding one line untill I realised what she said.

I finally worked out what she said but it sounded like this still I Mister bited with my Chacky doll, well I was more shocked by the accent than the actual line.

I found it completely by accident while exploring. This was before I had found Red Rock Canyon. I guess I got lucky there, because when I needed to find it for the "Oh My Papa" quest, all I had to do was fast travel. Of course, they weren't there anymore and I had to use the console to spawn Melissa, but that's beside the point. :whistling:

There is a back way to where they are standing. You don't go anywhere near any Deathclaws to get there that way. Come in from the North side of the Quarry.

Canucks get totally butt-hurt when people insinuate they might be American...it's pretty funny.
