No Great Mods Forthcoming?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:44 pm

TES Modding seems to me much like wine--it only gets better with age. Just look at Morrowind. Some amazing stuff has been released recently (enhanced economy, map overhaul, cliff's stuff, etc. etc. etc.), and some amazing stuff is right around the corner (pov's 2.0, a certain large quest mod--heard it has something to do with blades or something like that... :whistling: ). I could go on forever.

TL;DR: You're doin' it wrong! Open yo' eyes foo! :P

I would think a GREAT quest mod has a great story and great quest with challenging dungeons, like Lost Spires. More than anything, it is about an overall immersive story. All quest boil down to:go to location A, do task B, come back, get reward and next quest. The difference is how they go about it, how they depart from Oblivion visuals, how it fits into the mods big picture.
None of my quests fit into that description. I must have it wrong somewhere. :P
Most of Integration's quests don't fit into that description either... ironically it doesn't really have any dungeons either.

Bladesong seems to be nearing completion. I think people will probably like it.

Unholy Darkness seems like it will have some pretty interesting quests and everything else.

DB renewed was pretty interesting, if a bit short and esoteric (DB only, only for Listener)

Can't really think of much else.

I'm not sure where I stand in this topic. I'm looking forward to Forsaken Isles and that's about it. I have tried my hand at modding before..a long time ago but gave up because the CS was making me mad XD. I got my own idea though that I think I might run with..and I know a good place to learn how to mod, so I'm not worrying about lack of help.

These days when I come here, I just check to see if there's any updates to existing mods. You can expect any quest mod that comes out now to be pretty 'big' because they are so hard to do.

Also, there are good quest mods that are old too - check out Servant of the Dawn, or Blackwood company. Don't just stop at 'new great mods'. Look for old ones too.

Good Lord how much more work could I do and have done on Mesogea? Do I post invisible threads or something?

If you want big, new, interesting, totally new experience etc etc then surely you cant possibly have missed the last two years of me working almost every day on this?

Some links to draw everyones attention to it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZMobGgOWS0

http://i992.photobucket.com/albums/af43/valisarius/ScreenShot83.jpg

http://i992.photobucket.com/albums/af43/valisarius/ScreenShot81.jpg?t=1274911101

http://i992.photobucket.com/albums/af43/valisarius/ScreenShot74.jpg

http://i992.photobucket.com/albums/af43/valisarius/ScreenShot82.jpg

http://i992.photobucket.com/albums/af43/valisarius/ScreenShot76.jpg?t=1274911193

Then there is the website itself with tonnes of links, literature, video, a forum, chat facility, and Im even working on a new download including ALL of the work done to date including NPC's etc.

WEBSITE LINK: http://mesogea.spruz.com/ :shocking: :shocking: :shocking:

The main thing is you can JOIN the project and work on it, then you can provide yourself and others with tonnes and tonnes of play forever and ever and ever :icecream:

And this outrageous plug would be nothing without mentioning the equally applaudable Elsweyr, Middle Earth RolePlaying, Adash and all the other fantastic, marvellous, wonderful work being done out there.

One last word: WE ALL NEED YOUR HELP :banghead:

   I thank you.

Plenty of stuff happening, even in the quests part of modding, if you know where to look....

Oblivion modding is far from dead.

Interesting mods, you ask? A month and a bit ago I've released http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30973, a mod I was working on for over two years. I'd say it is an interesting mod.

In the beginning working on it was plain fun, but the closer to release date it was more difficult to find time and energy to finish and release it, since during those two years my situation has changed significantly(e.g. my doughter was born). I believe that many modders are in similar situations, especially if they are working on big mods.

As the OP, I really appreciate everyone's response here and wish to take a moment to respond to those responses. :D

It was never my intention to imply for one minute that modding isn't difficult or time consuming. For those of you that felt I had, I apologize for not making it more clear. I don't know the first thing about modding or scripting or any of that so "joining in" or making a mod of my own is out of the question. I depend on all you great modders out there and I do thank you for everything you've done. Whether I've played your particular mod or not... I still thank you for making it.

I realize that a "great" mod to me isn't necessarily a "great" mod to you. I can only speak for myself, of course. That's why I gave those examples. And while I am grateful for the suggestions people have made throughout this thread, some of the suggestions offered are nothing like the examples I gave. I have tried some of the suggestions given but have found that they offered nothing really "new". Yes they may offer quests, but their dungeons and other locations basically look the same as every other dungeon, fort, town or whatever. I guess I'm a more "visual" person in that respect. I love quests and new things to do, but need new, interesting visuals to go with it... not same-ole, same-ole.

Other suggestions given change the way the game is played. Again, my examples were nothing like that. I'm not really interested in changing the way magic is done or the economy or the worldspace (except UL, which I love) or the way this responds in relation to that, etc. I'm quite content with the way it is... I don't play the game for those aspects. And before you start slamming me for that, understand that I am not saying those mods aren't good or anything like that. I'm saying they do not interest ME. I can't speak for anyone else... I can only speak for me. Just as you can only speak for you.

I've written every suggestion down and will take another look at them. Again, my sincere thanks to everyone who offered them. This is really the only place I frequent to keep up to date on what's going on and for seeing what mods are being worked on and/or released so if they don't show up here, I miss them. Where else should I be checking?

Since I'm taking a tiny modding break, I thought I would take the time to chime in.

Besides these forums you can always check out the forums at http://tesalliance.org/. I believe TES Nexus also has a forum for WIP or RELZ threads.

I'm not entirely sure what you're looking for in a mod, but (here comes a shameless plug) might as well throw my project in the mix...

http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=1042037 - is an alternate start mod and MQ delayer that recreates Kvatch before the invasion. Still a WIP, but it's progressing well.

Oblivion modding is far from dead.

I couldn't agree more.

It wasn't my intention to offend anyone. I just wanted to explain how it is like with modding. Some large mods might never be released because of real life issues.

Sorry if anyone felt affronted.

cheers,

It's been nudged a couple times but I think my project http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1070806-wipz-reclaiming-sancre-tor-thread-vi/page__p__15564109&#entry15564109 might fit the bill for what you're looking for. It's a 40+ gameplay hour expansion with new worlds, locations, dungeons, bosses, tons of unique content and questing. Here's the last video to whet your palette: http://darkrder.webs.com/apps/videos/videos/show/2402081-reclaiming-sancre-tor-long-version

Scheduled to go to BETA in three weeks, after that it will be released once the voice work is completed, follow the progress! :foodndrink:

Hope you find something to get you excited for upcoming releases there are quite a few gems on the verge of release!

I have a slight feeling that this is a troll thread.

Just because the question is so rediculous, its hard to think that the OP is being serious.

I think he is just acting like this to get a reaction... I know this forum doesn't get many trolls, but hey, every forum has them.

Thank you, Darkrder. I have indeed been around a long while. I've been playing OB since it came out and became a member of this forum soon afterward. I'm certainly not a troll (although I believe I've heard some say I look like one. :hubbahubba: )

thekarithian, you've obviously taken this post as a personal attack on your own mod. I'm sorry you feel that way. I did not come here to whine. I was hoping people would possibly point me in the direction of mods along the lines of what I'm looking for (hence the examples provided in the OP) that I may have missed, allay my fears that no "great" mods are forthcoming, and/or point me in a direction other than this board to seek mods that might fit the criteria for one's that may interest me. They have done all that and more. And FWIW, your mod sounds quite fantastic and I'm look forward to playing it when its completed.

Well, not to be shamelessly self-promoting (actually, I am being :P ) but the mod I am working on at the moment (see my sig) is set in a large and visually very different worldspace, with some interesting (if I say so myself) new game mechanics. Maybe you will find it "great" though it is still a long way from completion. :)

Also, I'll second Elswyr as a great mod - that is certainly very visually different.

OZ youre misunderstanding the tone of the reply, which is why I posted the daft looking head smiley at the end of it, to show I was being somewhat silly. Its true though, Im not sure how different I could make the mod other than having characters running about with a banana in each ear. (joke btw)

These threads are an awful way of communicating, I'm absolutely certain you mean no offence in posting the thread, nor in any of your replies. I took nothing as an attack, and the whinging was all meeeeeee. :foodndrink:

I've replayed all my favorites and am need of something new. But it seems that for a very long time now, there have been no great mods released. I'm talking about big mods that offer something new to do and see... mods such as...

Gates To Aesgaard 1 & 2
The Lost Spires
Heart Of The Dead
Willie Sea's Haunted House

... and the like.

Have you checked out http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25530? Not a romance, really an action-adventure with a highly unusual house and companion thrown in.

What about http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23153? And, of course, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17743, and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15200, two companions that use the Underdark a great deal?

I second the remarks above about http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=31692. A lot is finished but it's ever-expanding, and has plenty of unique flavor to the architecture, weapons, armor, streets, and shops. Fans of the Telvanni in Morrowind will catch a few jokes, too.

All of the above are fairly new, and as you're very familiar with most of what's been around for a while, perhaps they'll help.

Granted, http://knol.google.com/k/toql-the-oblivion-quest-list# isn't currently being updated, but if you don't have it bookmarked yet, I suggest you do so. When maintained, it kept an excellent list of quest mods. Dev.akm's simply on leave from modding due to having scripted a new bairn, along with his wife. I gather they're checking out the code at the moment. You know how young programming couples can be, but he has said he will return.

Well its quite a silly question, they're are limitless, and yes limitless mods that are considered 'great'

nexus top 100

past 100 pages of these mod forums

mod detective threads

is all you need to check.

Plenty of great mods, he only mentioned like 4, when there is hundreds.
