Great new HUD. Sniper Rifles?

Post » Sat Feb 13, 2010 4:21 pm

I have been watching and salivating over this game for a long time and if it even half as good as I looks we are all in for a treat.

I like many of you have been watching trailers over and over again svcking up any knowledge I can about the game and more importantly the weapons.

I have always been a fan of the high powered one or two shoot marksman rifle in all shooters. I love finding a nice rhythm and taking heads off. I am also a huge shotgun fan. I have been a called a shotgun [censored] on many occasions and I welcome it. Shotguns are the close range one or two shot weapons.

I want to see some straight up sniper action in the upcoming trailers.

Also has anyone noticed how much the HUD changed. I was watching a video on GameTrailers ( http://www.gametrailers.com/video/pax-10-brink/705430 ) and was amazed how different everything looked. All the numbers flying players is gone and it now replaced with a xp/damage bar, which I think is brilliant. I thought it looked too much like Borderlands and it was a bit distracting. Its a great video and its already almost two months old. I can't wait till the release time rolls around and we can see the final goodies.

God bless Splash Damage and Bethesda.

Well, I started a thread about the weapons and their real-life counterparts if your curious. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1143894-brink-weapons/

But I think you're going to be a bit disappointed with what I have to say. There are no one shot kill weapons in the game, even counting headshots. One-hit-kill weapons were excluded mainly because its no fun to hit the ground before you know you're being shot at, no matter how much skill the shot took. Snipers are also absent from the game, because SD wants this game to be primarily in your face combat. Partially to show off the cool customization each player will have, partly because its just more fun, at least to SD. Most of the people here agree, or else they probably wouldn't be here.

The closest thing this game has to a sniper rifle are the two short rifles. These are semi-automatic rifles with lots of accuracy and high damage per shot, and are usable by any of the body types. If you wanted to play as a sniper, you could put a scope on one of those, but you would be playing more of a support role, as you would need to hit multiple shots to kill anyone from full health. There is a very short clip of one of the short rifles in action in the dawn of smart video, but the only real information to be gathered is that it shoots quite fast.

As far as shotguns go, there are two. There is the Medium pump action shotgun, which means that it can be a main weapon for a medium bodytype or a secondary weapon for a heavy. And then there is the Automatic shotgun that is only available as a main weapon for a heavy player. As far as relative power goes, one is used in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfvfIXTFWJc&feature=relatedTFWJc&feature=related

The footage is a bit old, so the gun may be balanced differently now, and its not being used at optimal range, but this is the best anyone can offer until more information is given.

No. no. no. no. no. no. no. no. no.

There are not going to be any sniper rifles in Brink, just short rifles with scopes. They will not one shot, think of them more as a support weapon. Think of the reason as the same reason they will also not have vehicles in Brink. Richard Ham said that it's going to be 8v8 team based infantry combat, and close ranger, not far range. Why? Because our characters look sweet.

I do like to have my sniper rifle in other games, but sadly I just don't think Brink is the one for it.

Here's is our most recent debate on sniper rifles, so we can keep it all in one thread.

Sorry Zombiespy, but you do realize that thread was one ohk headshots, right? Not really talk about the gameplay and general aesthetics of the sniper, as the thread happens to be?

From the original post, that is. The only other question the TC had was about the HUD, and we haven't really talked about that now, have we? I'm sure you can find the same info here as you can in the headshot board, making this redundant.

I would say that if he wants to discuss the topic, he should read what people had to say in the headshot thread, and then if he has something to add, say it here, but i think we covered the topic pretty well.

Also, with the HUD, I still see numbers popping up in game, its just not every time you land a shot, which was something I kind of liked anyway, it lets you know when you land a shot.

I like turtles.

I also like turtles, swam with them in Hawaii, that was fun.

Thanks for posting those links. I guess I was confused by the cinematic trailer. In the trailer the snipers seem to pull of one shot kills to the body. I understand that its a trailer, but why would they have a precision high powered long range weapon specially designed for one shot kills in the game in the first place.

I think I'll wait for the game to come out. See you guys then.

The one hit kills in the trailer are for dramatic effect. Who knows, the enemy could have been shot a couple of times beforehand, there are only a couple little clips in the Brink videos.

Wraith is right. They confirmed it in one of the latest interviews/videos.
Wraith is one of the most reliable persons when it comes to information about the game :)

Ehh, I don't know. Being on fire doesn't seem all that much fun.

If they have molotovs but it only sets the ground on fire, and not people, I will be a sad panda.

Setting yourself is not fun, no. But setting others on fire and watching them flail around is. That being said, the monk would be quite boring to set on fire, he just sat there.

Yea, I like to see at least some reaction when I set someone on fire. That might just be personal preference though.

That is actually no laughing mater the monk set himself on fire to prove a point. The Buddhist monks in 1963 Vietnam were not treated fairly and did not have equal rights granted to them by the Catholic Vietnam government. He committed to self-immolation in order to raise awareness of the oppressive policies the government placed them under. Yet keep in mind most Buddhist monks disagree with self-immolation.

I understand its off-topic but I felt that this must be mentioned.

I'll apologize if I offended you, but the internet is not a place to expect to see reverence for such things. Incidentally, I am aware of the politics behind it, and even the Buddhist philosophy behind it. And most Buddhist monks are not against what he did, only the image it gives them. If he was able to keep a higher world view throughout the experience and was doing it for the good of others, then due to the emptiness of his actions, Buddhists should find nothing wrong with what he did.

However, if you want to continue on this topic, I would suggest using the messenger.
