Greatest guitarist of all time

Honestly, Hendrix wasn't the best player of all time. Though I love him and to me, he's the best of all time, he most certainly isn't. I think that title goes to Jeff Beck. Then again, I don't really like Jeff Beck's music and I love Hendrix', so, eh.

Also, Jimmy Page isn't that good at all, IMO. If he wasn't in Zeppelin I doubt anyone would know who he was. He's pretty good, but he's not amazing.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and A Saucerful of Secrets were pretty good. Better than Ummagumma and Atom Heart Mother .

That's what I tend to hear from fans. I misspoke before because I have heard some off of Piper, albeit very little.

I disagree. I think that if Page wasn't in Zeppelin, he would have just helped make another band huge. He and John Paul Jones were pretty prominent studio musicians pre-Zeppelin, so I'm sure he wouldn't have trouble finding others to play with. While his guitar work can be quite sloppy (though still remarkable, I think), Page really shined in his contribution to original song-writing, despite the sometimes overt plagiarism they got away with all those years.

Yeah, I believe I've seen Gilmour make comments about their quality. I'll have to give it all a listen!

Jimmy Page
Eddie Van Halen
Jimi Hendrix
John Petrucci
John Frusciante
Kirk Hammett
Buckethead

I think these are the best, but my favourites are
Synyster Gates
Mark Tremonti
Slash

I'm sure i've missed loads out, but these are the ones that I think are both great and I love, all of which play a prominent part in my Itunes.
