Greaves and Cuirass merged into Armor Confirmed

Post » Tue Jul 05, 2011 10:03 am

It might be something to do with the crafting system, perhaps there is more variety in the respect that there will be more types of armor even if greaves and cuirass have been merged, it's always a possiblity.

In Elder Scrolls VII, there will only be one set of armor that your character wears and can not be taken off.

There will also only be one skill in TESVII, Fighter, down from TESVI's three (Fighter, Mage, and Thief).

As long as we can customize armour I'm not bothered, I always wore greaves and body of the same set where possible, I'd rather customize sets.

I'm not assuming anything at the moment. I'm in the I don't care about cuirass/greaves group (as in i don't care if they are in the final game).
The whole apocolypes thing it how i've seen poeple react to this whole thing. The game hasn't even come out yet a lot of people are automatically assuming they have.

You shouldn't assume everyone is going to respond that way. There's always gonna be people who flip out over little stuff, personally, I just see it as needless dumbing down instead of devoting more time to better features.

Edit: I have my doubts on the greatness of this crafting system, so I won't get my hopes up.

Don't forget that you can only use a sword during the entire game. Oh, and your character's name is Commander Shepard, you can't change it.

So they're combined, but somehow we'll be able to choose if we want a piece http://i.imgur.com/9bLw9.png. We don't have all the information, so getting upset isn't going to help anything.

Not to mention that TESVII's game world will no longer be a sandbox, Bethesda opting instead to make it linear. It's obvious that players hate choice, and if the world is open, that means they have to choose where to go, so that has to be fixed.

This svcks, but I'm still curious about separate pants and shirts. If even common clothes are now combined in Fallout-style outfits, part of me will die inside.

In addition, there will no longer be stats. Assault rifles are also replacing swords, making the transition from Cawadoody even more seamless.

You lose an enchantment "slot". Also, remember the guard armor sets in Oblivion? Chainmail boots/greaves/helmet/gauntlets, with a special town guard cuirass and shield. The mixing of cuirasses and greaves has had made sense in TES.

I doubt they would take away an enchantment slot.
Really, I'm hoping that we can add slots somehow.

If they merge cuirass and greaves, that's a loss of an enchantment "slot".

This stinks, but I can't say I'm not surprised. Part of the fun of these games for me is defeating enemies and looting them. I like the surprise of seeing what I get. Finding a new piece of armor was great, and now it will be one less thing to look for and be excited about.
I also liked having options, and the option to mix my legs and body armor however I wanted was a good thing.

If we get to craft/customize the new one piece armor I still am let down. I'd rather be able to customize and make my cuirass and greaves separately, then as one piece. The former obviously adds for a lot more variety then the latter. I don't get it.

Also how [censored] long can the armor be that we only see 5% of the greaves?? Greaves cover our legs, so are we running around in dresses?? I don't buy that excuse, nope not at all. I'd always choose more customization over less, and this is less for a fact.

It will just be a long, cinematic cutscene with a handful of quicktime events thrown in.

Seriously though, this isn't the end of world. Yeah, it svcks, but we still don't know anything about how smithing may tie into customization.

I don't think it's such a big deal, so long as clothing is still separated into shirts and pants. But even if those got merged I would get over it pretty quickly :violin:

Can someone tell me why people can't discuss things without the massive amounts of rude sarcasm? I find it odd that people can't voice their concerns about a feature in the game that's been available since Daggerfall being taken out without someone having to be completely rude or disrespectful.

I still don't really see what the issue is really....

What would you mix that would be cooler than wearing the cuirass and greaves of the same set?

M

Has anyone official said that an enchantment "slot" will be lost?
Its not complicated to add the greaves and cuirass together and keep the defense and enchantments of both separate.

In TESVI, body armor will be 1 piece and head armor will be 1 piece. In TESVII, all armor will be one piece. In TESVIII, there is only 1 set of armor for the entire game and leveling is removed. In TESIX, the game will become completely linear.

Thus is the road that BGS is starting to take.

Guess it makes sense that because you don't see someone face to face it gives people the right to be complete jerks to others about something as small as a feature in a video game.

If they really merge them, it means that all those cool one-of-a-kind greaves and cuirasses will either not make a return or be modified against the lore.
Savior's Hide really was my favourite piece of armour in Oblivion, and I will be very sad if it is merged with some creepy leather pants, or worse not included at all. :sadvaultboy:
