Green Man Gaming Fallout 4 Steam Key Delayed Release?

Post » Tue Dec 01, 2015 2:36 pm

Wondering about those of you that have used GMG in the past to preorder a game. Have you had any issue with delayed product keys? (meaning not getting to download the game hours, days, weeks after official release)

The only reason I ask is because there is a very clear warning message when you attempt to buy a Fallout 4 product key from them that they cannot guarantee to have the product key to you at the exact time of release.

I'm assume it shouldn't be an issue and they are just covering any potential problems, but curious to know what experiences you've had in the past.

Thanks

I never used GMG, but I do recall reading on the forums about some launch day issues in the past, but unfortunately not which game it happened with. So if you want to play on day 1, pre-order from GMG at your own risk. Although I reckon the chances of things getting delayed are rather slim.

The only game I've pre-ordered from GMG was Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. I was expecting to get the Steam key some time on or after the release date, but they sent it to me a couple days before, so I still had time to pre-load (it was a few days after Steam pre-load had started).

I think they always warn you about that because they can't guarantee when Steam will release the keys to them. If you don't mind the possibility of not having the game right at the moment of release, you can usually save a few bucks with GMG versus buying direct from Steam.

Might end up waiting a few hours longer

I have only used them a few times, it always was within a few hours of release. But, you are buying bargin store keys so you have to realize while they do work you may not get to preload. May have some issues to start with.

Edit: The last game I bought came exactly 1 day early.

GMG generally always ships keys out days in advance of a release. I've been using them for years and I've never had issues getting the keys well in advance of the game. GMG is also a partner with Bethesda Softworks, so you can bet they'll get their keys in time.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... its just the warning got me a bit concerned.

Oh well, going to go with it... the savings is too great to not at least hope for the best.

You know the wonderful thing about Steam? I don't HAVE to pre-order, I can just wait till the day, set it to download that morning, have a cup of coffee, hit the gym, and it'll be ready to rock for a few hours before work.
