Grenade Use

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:13 am

Searched it up in the search bar and I didn't see anything about this, so I'll ask away.

I was wondering if anyone knows about the way you will be using grenades in Fallout: New Vegas. In Fallout 3, it was rather annoying, in my opinion, to have to go into my Pipboy 3000 and manually select the grenade, replace the gun, and use the grenade. It came in handy with some occasions, but in the heat of battle, I would much rather see the use of the grenade as a normal first person shooter, where Left Bumper is grenade and Right Bumber is shooting.

So, I ask you, if anyone knows, will the grenade usage be like other first person shooters or will it keep that good old Fallout 3 order?

(If anyone has any gameplay footage of the grenade usage in Fallout: New Vegas, please link it in this topic. Please and thank you.)

You can just hotkey it like any other weapon.

True. Never really got into using the hotkeying in Fallout 3, sadly. o.o;

This.

Now that you got your solution, this will probably be locked. Am I right?

Well, just hotkey it to the left D Pad, and take the Quick Draw perk, hit left, toss it, and hotkey back to your gun.

You should really try to get the hang of it.
1. Its simplistic and easy to get used to.
2. Its convenient.
3. It can save your life.

Sounds easy enough.

I'm actually glad now, seeing that Fallout is staying original and breaking off from the usual first-person shooters out there.

Original? How are grenades being in your inventory original? Aren't most FPS games like that? You go in inventory, select grenade and go out. :/

I play FPSs all the time. Half-Life, CSS, L4D, etc. They all have grenades in an 'inventory'. Slightly easier to use than with Fallout 3, but still an inventory. Edit: Also, I sometimes play the original CoD which has grenades in an inventory...

i'd much prefer grandes on hand rather then inventory like an of the modern FPS games.

The problem with hotkeying is that it take time to switch to grenade, throw it and switch back to your weapon....and by then your face is blown off....making it not really useful...meaning unless you use grenades all the time it make grenades pretty useless in the middle of battle.

Like I said before, take the new Quick Draw perk, it makes drawing your weapons two times as fast.

But its not a standard backup weapon like normal fps. Its from the explosives skill. Also there are perks demolition expert (3) and splash damage to further upgrade them. That would also make the perk "Quikdraw" useless for grenades. Its convenient, but not appropriate for this game.

I know in fallout 3 you couldnt be an explosives expert, simply because there wasnt enough 'ammo' to play one. You had to pick another weapon skill in order to kill stuff and explosives were a secondary weapon for large mobs of enemies.

What are you talking about?
I played an explosive main and it worked out just fine.
The first 2 hours I had to use a melee weapon but after going to Minefield I was set for a long time.

I don't like the idea of having the grenades become a "support" weapon.
Like for example, press a button and you automatically throw a grenade.
Why I don't like it is because grenades aren't some sort of secondary "help" object.
They're their own weapon.
They deserve to be placed in the hand of the user and replacing the former weapon IMO.
Always been that way, should always stay that way.
