Grenades, mines, and throwable objects

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:58 pm

I was a big fan of explosives in the last games. I loved to used mines and grenades, but honestly they were such a pain to equip and then throw. They did not work well in the heat of battle and VATS frequently missed when using them.

I haven't seen any gameplay with these things in them yet. I am hoping that this was worked on since Bethesda has stated they really worked on the FPS feel of the game. I would really like to see these items mapped to a button to throw quickly. Or maybe have it mapped to a D-Pad to be able to "ready" it faster.

Anyone agree or know anything about throwable items in Fallout 4?

I could never get a handle on explosives. What usually happened with me, I sold the mines and most of the grenades, maybe keeping a few in the event of a cluster of super mutants.

That being said, I do hope they are in the game, as the more options on how to defeat enemies, the better the game will be.

fingers crossed for battlecap mines to return! Loved them in Fallout 3, but New Vegas nerfed them and made the components very scarce to even find. Luckily, New Vegas added Satchel Charges with the Lonesome Road DLC though :)

I always liked having a couple emergency Nuka Grenades on me just for those moments when you come across a Deathclaw, Feral Ghoul Reaver, hit squads, etc.

I believe the trailer showed us that you can now throw them while holding other weapons so I assume you assign it to a hot key and your player can throw it regardless of what they're holding currently.

I really hope this is the case. Which trailer showed that? I must have missed it.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post links, so I apologize in advance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYA9cK5Xo-4at 0:56 seconds, you see the player throwing a grenade and then firing his weapon.

you literally see the PC throw a grenade in the E3 bethesda demo. in the end combat section. looks a lot better. you throw it without having to switch out your gun

Yeah, pretty sure the grenade hotkey is confirmed.

What I'm wondering is if we'll be able to attach mods to our explosives, for more homemade shrapnel kinds of explosives. I'd love to be able to create a Springrazor equivalent.

It's pretty much just the links to bad language and nudity that will get you in trouble.

This would be awesome. Or some kind of sticky grenade? Or throwable sticky mine would be sweet as well. I really hope they implemented this well. Makes me excited!

The key to explosives of any kind is not to attack targets, but areas that targets are in.

My question is... will there be explosive launchers this time around? FO3 had none, it wasn't until FONV that we got grenade launchers. And rocket launchers were a Big Guns thing in FO3, before FONV prudently nixed that highly impractical skill.

The only times I ever used thrown weapons was against super mutants when I got in over my head early in Fallout 3. Now that I don't have to swap out weapons to use them, I wouldn't mind hucking a nuka or plasma grenade every now and then.

Looks like a lot more people will be using explosives now. It was a good move they made, IMO

A little more incentive to use them would be nice.

They'd have to be shown to be VERY powerful against clustered enemies in the tutorial.

The tutorial in goodsprings taught us how awesome the gun skill was. But it told us pretty much nothing about energy weapons, explosives, melee, or unarmed.

Some flashbacks would be a good way to teach the player how to do things. If the player is indeed a war veteran, maybe he'd flash back to his training.

I use explosives all the time because they are necessary against higher powered enemies or groups, especially when playing with MMM installed. They do far more damage than any gun (as well as the AoE of course).

Crafting different explosives would be nice but I wonder if they considered that yet? If not, perhaps they might try to develop it as part of a DLC.

I use explosives just because of its coolness hahahahaha

... And I hope we'll be seeing a powerful grenade like the nuka grenade again... A paralysis gas grenade would also be great! (great for escapes)

In FO3: Operation Anchorage, the Red Chinese had robotic suicide bombs, it stands to reason that someone could have pinched the idea and replicated it.

Some sort of sticky bomb would be awesome. Or a sticky proximity mine. I play a stealth character so something that I can throw quickly and tactfully to cover my back or to assist me with making an escape would be great.

I believe there was a mod that hot-keyed grenades  and I'm sure there will be another if we can't adjust that in our game settings.

I loved the option of sneaking up to people and plant a live grenade / mine on them. Really powerful option to deal with high hp / high armored humanoid enemies.

Project Nevada for New Vegas did this. It was finicky but it worked like a charm when you needed it to.

I really hope we can still sneak and plant mines/grenades on people. Hopefully, remote explosives make it into the game and we can detonate the explosive when we feel like the victim is in the right spot (among a group of raiders :))
