Grenades, Molotovs ..not on VATS

Post » Mon Jan 18, 2016 11:30 pm

this is just venting a wish-list of mine.

in FO-3 Grenades could be used in VATS and I miss this feature completely in FO4.

I am a complete VATS dependant player ( without VATS , FO4 could be just another 'shooter' in my eyes ) and Bethesda could have continued here with the FO-3 functionality regarding the grenades and other hand-throwable projectiles.

something I sadly miss in FO 4 . :sadvaultboy:

I share your pain on this issue my friend. I miss throwing grenades in v.a.t.s. but on saying that, I have had great fun throwing them manually in F4.

I'm not great with nades in fo4,just as likely to set off a chain reaction involving some vehicles.oil slicks and gas canisters(or bounce one off my companions head) as i am to get an accurate throw.

I did have a LOL moment, threw a nade and as it was midflight another enemy came in through a door which caused the nade to hit it and come right back at me=/

The arc you get for the second 'boom' perk works very well. I have been threading nades into all kinds of places, through little holes quite often, and it's working great for me.

I quite like it.

Boost a little jet, lob a grenade and then enter VATS for slo mo kills as everything explodes around my enemies. Great fun B)

Good tip, gotta keep my eye open for this illusive arc. God knows why havent I seen this yet ( I am on level 43 !)

BUT.heh heh..having said that, (ahem) I still need VATS ....I am lazy and the arc u mention is like in 'real-time'. so by the time( I am assuming), I perfect the arc for the best impact, the enemy is already all over me and smacking ..whereas with VATS , I can slo-mo the time and let the Pip boy decide the final impact...I am really for the Latter than the former as an option

so Bethesda if u r watching..then Please in the next dlc.

Good to know there's a perk that helps you see where the grenade will go. I don't really use them much since I'm more likely to blow up me and/or my companion instead of whoever I am fighting. It seems that NPCs are much better at them than I am. My grenades only seem to go about 5 feet or so before they land and NPCs can lob them hundreds of feet across a quarry with pinpoint accuracy. Maybe I'll pick up the perk one day so I can get better use from all the explosives I've been hoarding. :)

I've always just had really good grenade throwing skills in games, so I didn't even use VATS for grenades in previous Fallout games. I pride myself on being able to precisely throw digital grenades through digital windows with almost unerring accuracy...lol

Regardless, it does seem a bit strange that they removed it. VATS is such a central element of Fallout that it seems like a rather odd change to make.

Yeh that's one thing I didn't get and it always such a pleasure to see a perfectly placed grenade by someone's feet just before it exploded in slow motion.

Yessss...I share your enthusiasm here completely. something like a 95 % vats chance on someone or something's head.....tooooo juicy to describe it all here.

I miss not being able to throw grenades in VATS too, and wish they would make that possible again. Barring that, getting the visible throwing arc with the Explosives 2 perk has helped quite a bit. Having both, would rock. Even with the throwing arc assist, you still have to plan for a certain amount of grenade roll/bounce, after it lands. With a bit of practice in predicting that roll, you can get them to explode pretty close to where you want. Putting a third point into Explosives expands the range of your grenade's explosive radius, which helps even more. Dang Molotovs, on the other hand, I seem to get more of on myself than my enemies... grrrr. When using the throwing arc thing, it often helps to holster your weapon first- your weapon being out in front of you will very often obscure the target point of where your arc is going to land, making it much more difficult to aim properly. Bad planning by Beth, there- yet another thing making throwing grenades more difficult than it should be.

I've seen posts that this still works, apparently you can toss a grenade and then use VATS to shoot it in mid-air, apparently you can also target mines in VATS too. I never use VATS so i can't speak from personal experience on this.

Practice makes perfect. Without the perk, it's more of a granny toss, but after countless hours of practice, I feel like I can drop them at the feet of my enemies from almost any distance. Because of this I am actually avoiding the perk now, same with Sniper, because I enjoy the challenge of the scope sway..

Companions are accurate and enthusiastic grenadiers...a little too enthusiastic perhaps. They are as likely to want to soften up a Bloatfly party as a Super Mutant patrol.

I like the arc, and was completely and pleasantly surprised when it showed up after perking Explosives. I've gotten pretty good with it and now use it all the time in engagements...sometimes running around with an active arc until that perfect moment presents itself. Throwing grenades through windows is a lot of fun.

Having said that, I do miss using grenades in VATS. It was a core part of my explosives gameplay in previous games. Seems another strange thing to cut out. A true improvement would have been able to do both.

Nuka Nades plus super mutants in VATS was a glorious thing to see.

Yeah, I have not been using any nades in FO4. I miss throwing them and shooting them in VATS. I have built up quite a collection of nades. I would have more, but sometimes I sell 'em.

You can do all that...shoot your own in air...enemies in air...however you cannot target a grenade in an enemies hand anymore, which is kinda lame since you have to be rather quick to target an enemies grenade/Molotov once they throw it..

And yes you can target mines..it was helpful at first when I couldn't see the mines very good, now I can spot them pretty well, a couple surprises here and there....ninja perks eliminate any mine threat now tho..
