Grenades!

FO3 and NV? Hardly ever used grenades but mines were my best friend. My very best friends. I could not get enough mines. Frag mines, plasma mines, bottlecap mines, I welcomed them all to the party. Oh the traps I laid and the carnage wrought with little to no gunplay. Good times. Good times.

Looking forward to the change with FO4 and the hotkey. I've always believed you could have the best of both worlds with FO. The skill level determines random critical chance, critical damage, and damage. The player skill determines if you hit or not. I just hope the default game does not have some weird bullet climb like the arrows in Skyrim.

Well that's because, for all of CoD's faults, its mechanics are solid and fun. It wouldn't be so popular if it was clunky and annoying.

I don't see how trying to make the combat mechanics actually, well, good means that the game is, somehow, actually try to be CoD.

It's a scapegoat statement because COD is typically vilified. Or at least it's popular to do so. Usually when someone compares it to COD, it's rarely positive.

I hope that we're still able to equip grenades standalone. As much as I like this addition, there are times that I think we need to have a bit more precision and control in the force we have in our throws. In Halo and CoD, I don't remember being able to have much control when I threw them. It was just a tap and then it went vaguely in the area I was looking.

FO:NV had a lot of soldiers patrolling the land.

FO:NV = COD: Mojave.

CoD is the cool thing to hate that no 'serious gamer' wants to admit they play. The friends I know who play it say it's just fun, but for me personally, I don't play because military things don't really fascinate me Post-WW2. But I do hate when anyone sees a feature they don't like, they are quick to use the 'CoD Defense' as why it's bad. At this point CoD in gaming discussions is literally the Godwin's Law of gaming debate. Don't like it? Cry CoD!

Usually grenades work like they do in real life, you need to arch them. Obviously you can't arch your PC's arm, so you need to aim a bit higher than your intended landing point. I'm not a CoD fan because military sims aren't my thing, but I learned how it works through Payday 2.

Grenades were always useful (if perhaps too plentiful). They were just not necessarily convenient to use. Some of my best RP experiences in FO3 are an explosives / melee only character.

No need to apologize and I certainly didn't mean for my comments to make you feel unwelcome here. Just keep in mind that while Bethesda's Fallout games appear to be FPS shooters, they are not and gamers that come here with the impression that it IS a pure FPS or want Fallout to become another shooter is likely to get a negative reception (most RPGers in these forums will view any shooter references in a negative light, just par for the RPG course).

Your second point to my comment was the issue. Something that is useful but not convenient to use, makes it let useful to me. I'd sell all but 3 or 4 grenades since I used them so rarely. It was just not 'fun' to use them

Grenades from VATS were great fun. Give it a shot. My favorite was finding the Raider "wipping" Circle (random event) and VATSing a Nuka 'nade in the middle of it....
