Greybeard's Words to Dovahkiin **SPOILERS**

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 8:11 pm

For those who have played the main quest of Skyrim and retieved the horn of Jurgen Windcaller for the Greybeards, I want to ask a question.

When the Greybeards use the "traditional" words of greeting for a dragonborn, and they formally recognize you as such. What do their words mean? No I don't mean the literal translation from the dragon language to english, but the meaning behind the words

"You are Ysmir now" What? I'm Talos? ------Origins of my not understanding

Just another way of saying "You are Dragonborn".

Greybeards could not look at Talos without seeing a dragon...

Ysmir seems to be a title bestowed upon the Dragonborn.

By the very proof of not being blasted into ash by their greeting, you prove yourself to be Ysmir, Dragon of the North.

This is means your destiny is star-wrought, if uncertain.

I just didn't understand because of all the phrases they were using. Long has the Stormcrown languished, without a worthy brow to sit upon." Am I the king of something? Isn't Stormcrown another word for Talos. So am I like, taking up his mantle?

I think the line in your OP is referencing the fact that your soul is the same one that occupied the body of Tiber Septim. Not sure. The Stormcrown line was strange as well.

I believe Ysmir is a title, The Dragon of the North.

It is now my belief that the Heresy, misled by the occasional 'reappearance' of 'Ysmir', believed that it was the same guy throughout all the centuries, when in reality, they were Dragonborns who had been greeted by the Greybeards.

The new Ysmir is also probably being set up to become another Talos-like figure. Ascended mortal. I would bet he'll be a divine in the next game and we can worship at his shrine.

And are we to assume that every Dragonborn past and present are one of these "Talos-like figures?"

Indeed, the DB's soul and Talos' soul (rather, Tiber Septim's) are connected, but that does not mean that their destinies are the same.

It would seem, at least at first glance of the material provided, that several of the titles that Tiber Septim had were actually titles for the Dragonborn, of which Tiber Septim was. Ysmir is likely a title denoting the draconic qualities of the Dragonborn, the Stormcrown could refer to the position that the Dragonborn holds over men (their Ideal and Champion).

Yes, you are Talos. You're holding back the next kalpa, you accomplish this by defeating Alduin.

Which, of course, makes them all kind of the same guy and as such it's most definitely not an accident the text uses it as such.

I'm just assuming the Greybeards are just as deluded as the rest of the Nords when it comes to religion.

I like turning into gods, for one reason only:

A Dunmer is Sheogorath.

A Dunmer is Talos.

We're taking over all your religions.

Yeah, but he turns into a Breton, so Amedublablablablabla should be happy.

Talos was a Nord. Sheogorath is technically Daedra but takes the form of a Breton.

Yeah, I was talking about Sheogorath. And I was joking.

And Tiber may have been a very, very Nordic Breton. It's doubtful, and he was most likely a Nord from High Rock, but he was from High Rock.

...be rather strange if the races of man were to hold an elf, khajiit or lizard to be their ideal xD
