Grief: Steam and you!

Post » Wed Aug 24, 2011 1:52 pm

Just a word of advise, if you make a connection to Steam a requirement for playing a game you might want to make sure that Steam will make it a priority to actually be able to handle the process. Getting the "The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes" message for a single player game is INFURIATING, especially when it lasts more than just a few minutes.

When trying to load New Vegas that's all I get, an error stating "The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes" which would be fine if you could play the game in offline mode without having to circumnavigate the DRM. At this point I'm pretty sure it's not even a server issue but something that's gone wrong with the game but it's the DRM that's causing this headache. The funny thing is, if I had pirated it I wouldn't be dealing with this problem right now. Feels like punishment for paying.

I'm having the same issue. Was playing just fine, got dropped when I fast traveled, now can't get back into the game. I hate the Steam requirement. I can't launch the damn thing in offline mode like I could when I first got it. Not sure why.

Yeah I get the same stuff, this is the first bad thing I experience with steam, and well......it feels like a really stupid idiotic thing since it's a single player game.

I can start Witcher 2 and Civ 5 without any problems

The only steps I've found online have been to delete the .blob files and restart. I've tried this and it didn't help. I've submitted this to the guys at Steam and will post whatever response I get in here.

And all I wanted was to sit down and play for a few hours on my day off.

Had this problem with Steam before with Civilization, the solution was that Civ only req u to use steam to install not to play. No Steam = No problems

Having the same stinkin problem as everyone else here.

You know what it is? Deus Ex became available today and we're getting screwed because they already have our money!

I bought Hard Copy in the store because I didn't want to have to deal with this kind of B.S.

Going to have to look long and hard before I ever buy a "Steampowered" game again and will certainly never spend a penny on anything from their on-line store!

Same, I didn't know what "Steampowered" was, thought u just needed Steam to install, (which is annoying but ok), having to load Steam everytime makes me want to just torrent the game. You would think paying for the game would make it easier to play

I thought that I was the only person with this problem. I use a PC to play my games because I have to work for a living. If I am going to spend a bunch of money to build a computer that can run AutoCAD I figure that I can use it to play games as well. I am sorry to say, I will not be buying any more video games if the companies decide to use this "Steam". The old system where a legitimate copy had to have the DVD loaded into the player was just fine. I know that the companies want more security from "piracy" but the only places where that sort of thing is practiced on a large scale are countries that are not EVER going to buy expensive "legitimate" video games.

I have come to the conclusion that having to ask permission to play a video game that I PAID FOR is not something that I want to do in the future. If Jason Bergman or anyone else who works under the umbrella of Bethesda Softworks reads this please understand: YOU HAVE LOST A CUSTOMER BECAUSE OF STEAM.

Would be nice if Bethsidian would investigate. Even though they are not Steam, they might give a call to them on what is happening. If we are going to play Bethsidian games they might wanna provide us with playtime to start with. Once again, I know Bethsidian isnt Steam, but I think they too would like to know what is going on.

Im actually insanely happy to hear that there is a reason for this. I thought it might have been due to something like this, but now i have proof. Well, hopefully this means itll be up and running eventually. Sadly, that looks like it wont be today. Im extremely disappointed in steam for making us suffer because they want to make more money. I had just installed a new mod or two i wanted to check out, and now THIS. I guess i will go play Dragon Age, or maybe The Sims.

It's weird because if you look at the player status in Steam it says that 4000+ users are playing Fallout New Vegas, I want to talk to one of them...

Haha, probably people who havent crashed yet. Or just havent logged off, if they are lucky enough not to crash. I was playing fine, then i logged off to mod my game, but i suppose if i had kept playing i wouldnt have had to deal with this server issue. I think its pretty upsetting that Steam makes us play single player games off of their servers, when they know that they cant always cater to everyone. I wish we could go back to the old days when you could buy a game and just play it without these stupid server issues. I paid good money for this game, and what can i do? Nothing. Wait. Wait while Steam makes more money. And who knows how long that will last. Days, maybe. Which is terrible, because this is my last week of summer vacation.

Normally i'd agree with that, but when you get a long deserved day off then cant use it how you planned you get a little upset, like if you spent a month planning a picnic just to have it rain. I'm okay with waiting, as long as it is only 2 or 3 hours, if it lasts all day then i'm going to be a little ticked off, but not at steam, i'll be upset at the situation. I definitely wont stop buying steam games though, especially if Skyrim is for steam.

I agree, it's definitely not the end of the world. I love Steam and have had few, if any problems until now, and have been using the service for over two years. They've earned plenty of slack. This is an inconvenience for me, but I'm sure it'll get fixed soon; it always does.

hrm

maybe a glitch in their server?

sad day a bit, I'm used to getting this sort of thing with MMOs, and to have it with a Single player game svcks. Usually I play the Single player when the MMO's having problems. Now I'm doing the reverse LOL

ah well I'm sure they'll straighten it out quickly, hang in there guys
