Grimioire mod?

Post » Thu Mar 18, 2010 7:31 pm

Excellent work on these, Stuporstar. I think each of the books really captured the School they're for, although I have to agree that the single large scorch mark on the Destruction book looked rather strange. I await this release eagerly. Reading this thread inspired me to nab a few book mods, your BoV included.

If I may ask, slightly off-topic, what is this Writing Enhanced mod? Does it let you write your own stuff in books in-game? I tried to google it and couldn't find anything...

Yeah, Writing Enhanced required MWE script extender. It lets you write your own stuff in empty books and scrolls (buyable at some stores) in-game, and you need an inkwell and quill pen to do it. It's pretty cool.

That Enchanting grimoire looks great!

It should be available if you do a search on PES, or using Yacoby's search engine. It's an MWE mod that allows you to write in specially scripted blank books.

You can't rush perfection. :P

I've finished texturing all the grimoires. I upgraded a few of the textures because I wasn't 100% happy with them. The grimoires of destruction. alteration, restoration, and illusion have been redone. I also added transparency to the center of the illusion book. The bit in the middle with the eye is invisible, so you can see right through it. Now I just need to finish the scripting on the Necromancer's Grimoire, and it will be ready to go.

Very very nice. I'll be using these, definitely, and I'll have to look into that Writing Enhanced. I think it would be funny if you made the Illusion grimoire, the entire thing, partially invisible. And then when you get near enough to pick it up, it's opaque. Or maybe make it a special one with a quest from a spacey wizard:

"Hey there! Could you help me find my book?"
"Sure, what's it look like?"
"It's invisible."
"!?"

Heh, easier said than done. I think I'll leave it as is.

I've almost finished the mod now. All grimoires will affect the player for an hour and then wear off. You cannot stack the effects of the grimoires. You can only benefit from one at a time. Each grimoire adds 5 points to your skill in that school of magic. I've decided to place one copy of the Dwemer and Necromancer's grimoires in the game world, rather than adding them to leveled lists. I only have one of each book for sale of the other grimoires, so I thought only having one of the special ones made sense rather than placing them in leveled lists and having the change of none, or far too many being around.

The necromancer's grimoire is special though. It comes with a benefit and a curse. Using it will automatically summon a powerful skeleton companion for an hour. This skeleton has proper follow scripting, so it won't get stuck on the geometry as you're running around. However, you will lose 40 points of personality while the skeleton is following you around.

Is that too harsh? I think it's an appropriate cost for scaring the locals, but what do you all think?

Maybe something more powerful than a Skeleton? They're rather weak. I think a Greater Bonewalker or maybe a Bonelord would be appropriate. Unless the Necromancy Grimoire is really easy to find early on.

The books look fantastic, though. I will absolutely be getting this. These are the best-looking MW books I've ever seen.

The skeleton is more powerful than an ordinary summon. It's based on the skeletal war wizard, which is the most powerful skeleton in the game. I watched as it killed a Kwama forager and a rat at the same time in a couple of hits, so it's definitely not underpowered. I didn't want it too overpowered though, so it's not stronger than the original skeleton war-wizard.

Also, the mod is now pending approval on PES. I'll post a release thread when it's up.

That's the skeleton from Tribunal, right? I forget, I really don't go to Mournhold very often at all -- Vvardenfell is more interesting to me. That's cool, then, if it's a GOOD skeleton.

I still think Bonewalkers are the coolest-looking undead, though. :D

the skeleton war-wizard is the skeleton in Ald-Redaynia that's guarding the Bittercup. It has a nasty, nasty cursing spell.

Yep, that's the one. The curse is actually a ring in the skeleton war-wizard's inventory though, the vampire ring with absorb health. I thought that ring was a bit OP for a summon, and it's supposed to be a unique reward, so I didn't add the ring to the skeleton companion.

Wow. Those look really good! My favorites are the two in the third column.
