Grimsever: Mjoll's Trusty Blade of Choice...

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:42 pm

Hiya. 360 here. I have a question.

So I'm adventuring with Mjoll now, who is very neato (upbeat, positive personality, unlike the drone robots Housecarls I've traveled with before).

After completing the Grimsever favor for her, I found out that she's coded to prefer....well, pretty much any weapon other than the one she's supposed to love so much, but mostly anything two-handed. On top of that, unless it's randomly generated (Grimsever in my game is a glass sword), it matches a type of armor she refuses to wear as well (light). And it doesn't even fit her personality at all, imho.

My solution is to create her a cool two-handed weapon and enchant it (probably a Skyforge Greatsword with fire and absorb health), and then name it Grimsever and ditch her 'real' one. My question: Is her (original) sword vital beyond retrieving it to gain her favor? I'd be annoyed to sell it, and then find out it was needed for something else later.

Like completing some quest over and over again, with Red Eagle....

I haven't found it to be vital. In fact, I took Grimsever back from her after returning it and use it personally dual-wielded with Chillrend. Decent combination to freeze out the competition.

BTW - Mjoll and I are married so keep your hands off her....LOL

My first char married her too. Is Aerin constantly following Mjoll around, even in your house? If Mjoll is just in my house, not as a follower, Aerin is always there. IN MY HOUSE. WITH MY WIFE. EVEN WHEN I'M NOT THERE. I killed him.

It makes sense, she lost it and had to switch weapons and has been using two-handed weapons ever since and forgot all about how to use a one-handed weapon. :vaultboy:

I lol'd hard!

I'm not a lisbian, so, no. I wish there were khajiits to marry. The accents of some of the male ones I've seen are yummy...

Maybe she's too scared to lose it again?

It brings back terrible memories, you're a monster for wanting her to use it!

Yeah I've noticed that, I can marry every race but Khajiit. Sad face. Oh also I noticed that Mjoll wont use Grimsever (it's a glass sword in my game too so I guess it's not a random leveled item) I assume her 2 handed weapon skill is higher and she's 'programmed' to only use 2 handers. If you're on PC I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of fix for it.

Have you tried upgrading it and giving it back to her? She may use it then, especially if you take away everything else she has.

So, I guess you all missed the pinned thread on not posting spoilers in the general section.

I will move this now.

In before certain anatomical facts of male kahjiits :hehe:

Anyway, haven't used her, but Lydia always uses the equipment that has best armor/attack value. So have her carry only the weapon and armor you want her to use.

No, upgrading it doesn't help. I took it to legendary and she still won't touch it. It's ok tho, it doesn't fit her anyway...

I outfit each Housecarl with a maxed out suit of armor. Lydia got dragonplate. Iona got ebony. I just stick to forsworn armor and bow.

Seems like everyone has been missing that lately...

On topic - yeah I noticed this, but for some reason I feel compelled to keep it in her inventory anyway. I've wondered if improving it would work (it should, technically), but I have no glass smithing perk to test it out with. Seems like wasted effort since I'll never use it myself, but hey, maybe in a different playthrough I would...

As far as I know there's no other quests for it, but it wouldn't hurt to stash it in your house, would it?

I'm sorry. I had multiple forums open and didn't realize I was in the wrong one.

And I'm not 'everyone'. I'm me. Sue me.
