Groovatron Question

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:43 am

I recently installed The Groovatron, and I've spent a good amount of my game time the last couple of days just playing around with it and discovering all of its capabilities. It's a huge amount of fun and I really do like the mod a lot.

One question I have though is about the Modified Idles and Skeleton for Facial Expressions package which is available on the Groovatron Nexus page, which is needed to enable character facial expressions. Do the meshes and the skeleton. nif files replace just the head, or the whole body? I'd like to not have my character look so grim all the time, but I'm using a Type 3 body replacer and don't want to run into compatibility issues with that. The Nexus page isn't very clear on this point.

Thanks!

Am I glad you posted this- I wasn't able to use the facial animations, having not realized that a modified skelly was needed. :D Replacing the skeleton will not have any impact on the look of your body replacer- but as always, if you are nervous, just make a backup copy of your meshes/characters/_male folder for peace of mind.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/download.php?id=55024 the Nexus page says you need to use facial animations.

Thanks for the info on how it should work with the body replacer - I'll try it out.

Yup, I've grabbed it, thank you! :D I'm not a mesher or animator, but I can tell you that the skeleton is sort of an animation conduit ( it also contains collision and havok info) and has no bearing on the body mesh appearance- the skelly provides the way the body behaves, while the mesh provides the way the body looks.

I'm slowly getting there as far as figuring out what the various pieces in mods and in the game do to make it all work. I think I've got a fair grasp of the basics by now, but that just means I'm at that dreaded "knows just enough to be dangerous!" stage right now. :D

One thing it does make me appreciate is the huge amount of effort and time game devs and modders have to put in to bring a great game like Fallout 3 to the rest of us.

Thanks very much for the help.

The fact that you are self-aware enough to notice this puts you miles ahead of most users. Trust me. :whistling:

Thanks very much for the help.

Not a problem. I just tested things in game, and finally my character can sport a cheesy grin on command, so I'm grateful you started the thread. Cheers!
