Grow a Beard for Skyrim!

Post » Wed Feb 16, 2011 5:51 pm

I've got a bit of a beard going. Mostly out of laziness during exam time, also cause it's damn cold up here in Canada. I'll keep it for as long as I can, but work will [censored] me out for it eventually. At least my old manager did, maybe the new guy won't notice/care?

Also, much more importantly... can we have proper beards IN THE GAME?

Children! Your beards have not yet come forth, as you have not yet fully matured. Do not let that stop you from attempting to grow your beard from will power alone! In 11 months, you could have the beard you never knew you could have!

I wonder if 17 is considered "child" status.

Anywho, I can't grow a beard yet so... bah.

I think we need to form a list of the promised bearded Nords, so we can bug them for shots at 'round October, next year. ;)

(I make no promises for an awesome beard. I significantly lack cheek hair - watch out for the honest abe with a moustache.)

I'd prefer to run my fingers through mens' facial hair rather than grow it.

pff, we Nordmenn, Norwegians, are nord enough already to begin with ^^

This.

I'm fine with red hair, it's just my hair is dark brown so my beard doesn't match at all

Buy haircolor for your beard. It's really nice, and it sits in for a long time.

I can't seem to get anything to grow on my cheeks either except some rogue strains of beard that I constantly shave off. <_<

I'm about to impart on you the secret of a full beard. Get a beardtrimmer. When the hair on your upper lip, around the mouth, chin and jawline gets out of control - trim it, but leave your cheeks alone.

I have a much slower hairgrowth on my cheeks as well, which lead me to believe I couldn't get a full beard. Problem was, whenever I shaved I'd shave my whole lower face, so my cheek hair never got the time it needed to grow.

TL;DR Buy a trimmer, trim your heavy beardgrowth, leave the rest to grow. And you'll have a full beard :)

I've been blessed with unusual hairiness since my youth, had a solid goatee for the last two years of highschool. It was maybe about two years ago that I grew it out to a full beard. I'm 21 and would frequently make other older duds I worked with jealous cause they couldn't grow beards as well. Unfortunately, it doesn't grow very long yet except for in the chin region, but the rest of it is a nice even inch or so. I actually just got done growing it out for a month. Had to shave it because I look way better with the neck beard shaved off, and the rest of it just poofs out, doesn't get that nice triangular beard shape.

Can't grow a beard, just stubble. I'd rather not look like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, so I'll pass for now. Badass idea, though.

Representing with a properly maintained and presentable ginger beard for the last few years. Have previously grown out a 'hobo' winter beard when I was in university. Unless something thouroughly unexpected happens between now and 11/11/11, I expect to be similarly bearded at that time.

I encourage those who have never stuck to growing in a beard to give it a real shot - if you're a slow or patchy grower, you have to commit, don't give up two or three weeks in. Just trim it evenly with a beard trimmer while you wait for the patches to fill, shave your neck, and try not to look like a hobo - at least until you have something presentable on your face first ;)

No Shave November was more than enough for me... I didn't shave for about five weeks and it was so scratchy and it just looked so dirty (not like it needed to be washed . . . just sketchy as hell). No way I could last 11 months... Hell I haven't shaved for around five days and I already really want to shave right now. I just don't have my razor with me at the moment or I would.

I briefly considered springing for an extra copy of the collectors edition for a kind of "best beard" prize, but I'm poor, so no.

I've noticed an increase in "sirs" and handshakes since my beard grew out to lengths acceptable enough to be called a beard. The Moses and rabbi jokes have been surprisingly minimal. I did some math, and if my beard maintains the same average rate of growth, it should be well over my chest by 11-11-11. I think I'll braid it and hang human skulls from it. Or maybe spiked iron balls for use as a makeshift flail.

I'm about a month and a half into a beard, too... started when I was delirious from fever and couldn't shave; continued when my girlfriend of six years commented that she'd never seen me with facial hair; resolved to keep going when I discovered that I actually have a full, evenly-distributed set of follicles now. Whether I keep going for a full year... we'll see. But awesome thread, man. :D

...which I mostly didn't read, so apologies if this has been mentioned: for the chromosomally beardless, check this out. I've heard a few versions, but here's Wikipedia's:

The Winnili were young and brave and refused to pay tribute, saying "It is better to maintain liberty by arms than to stain it by the payment of tribute." The Vandals prepared for war and consulted Godan (the god Odin), who answered that he would give the victory to those whom he would see first at sunrise. The Winnili were fewer in number and Gambara sought help from Frea (the goddess Frigg), who advised that all Winnili women should tie their hair in front of their faces like beards and march in line with their husbands. So it came that Godan spotted the Winnili first, and asked, "Who are these long-beards?" and Frea replied, "My lord, thou hast given them the name, now give them also the victory." From that moment onwards, the Winnili were known as the Langobards (Latinised and Italianised as Lombards).
