Grow a Beard for Skyrim! #2

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 2:29 am

It's cold outside. The weather is quite wintery, and what better way to protect your face from the bitter icy death than to grow a gigantic beard!

The idea is simple. Skyrim is set in a land that is quite snowy and cold, and where it is snowy and cold... and populated by norseman, there are beards. You sir, with your smooth cheeks, are going to freeze to death before you even get a chance to slay your first snow troll. We have 11 months before the game is released, and if you are able, 11 months is a goodly amount of time with which to grow a beard the likes of which any Nord would be proud of.

My beard is two and a half months old now, and I plan to continue it's growth uninterrupted until 11-11-11. I had no reason to grow it before, I just was, but now I can say that I'm growing it for Skyrim. It's cold in them there mountains!

Men! Those of you who have facial hair that you scraqe off every morning. Let it grow, lest you be made fun of in the mead halls come next November!

Women! You cannot grow beards (Unless you can. If so, I apologize.) But you can encourage the man in your life to grow one! If you care about him at all, you would not want to see his face become a nordic popsicle! Encourage him to grow his beard for his own safety!

Children! Your beards have not yet come forth, as you have not yet fully matured. Do not let that stop you from attempting to grow your beard from will power alone! In 11 months, you could have the beard you never knew you could have!

The Elder Scrolls V is coming, and you should prepare yourself. Use this thread to keep us updated on your beardly progress. Only the beardliest will survive the harsh winters of Skyrim.

Anyone else joining in on the beard growing? I can't, due to being a femmy Asian boy, but the Nordlier of you sure can.

Unfortunately I can only stand my beard getting so long. I'll keep growing my hair for Skyrim though.

Mine is about 2 months old now, and I plan to leave it growing until release day, does look a bit weird though, the left side is red while the right is brown...

i like my character to be an attractive girlie (i'm a run of the mill sraight bloke, but i like girls 'natch). Not sure how i'd take to having her grow a beard Lol Beard growing would probably be most realistic, in the style of manly Viking warriors, but Bruma's Nordic population was strangly beard free!!

That could potentially look awesome if you ever decided to braid it. Or, if it bugs you, there's always the option to dye it.

Surprising for a 15 year old my goatee is small but filling in. I'd say in six months it should be pretty thick.

But I hate being blond, always makes me look like I have less than I do. Depends on the lighting. :(

If I did braid it, i'd need to wear a norse helmet and go pillaging through the city
I doubt i'll ever bring myself to dye it, i'm the only one in this university with a multicoloured beard, makes me feel unique

I've had a beard for years--well not a full beard, just a big billy goat hanging from my chin. It's about 5 inches long, but doesn't seem to want to get any longer. But it will be braided and have wooden beads in it. I also have a shaved head to boot. :P Not great in the cold, but sure does send some people walking in the opposite direction, heh. Which I get a kick out of. Sure I look like a thug, but five minutes talking to me and they'd know I'm not.

Finally, a game where I can be a proper barbarian. The beards in Morrowind were hilarious. There aren't any in Oblivion. Dammit, I'm looking forward to a big bird nest on the face of my Nord.

Since I saw the original thread a while back I stopped shaving, and I will try not to until 11-11-11. :)

Though I hate putting pics of myself up online, I thought I'd share my progress. (Cropped to hide as much as possible. :P)

Behold (the beginnings of) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/jasonsteele/Everything%20Else/Beardupdate.gif?t=1295272397.

I'm aiming for something like http://www.fancydress99.co.uk/f-5/widV6335/Viking-Wig-W-Maxi-Beard-And-Moustache---Fancy-Dress.jpg but with a #2 crop. (I don't do long hair.)

I was going to not shave from New Years Day until 11-11-11 but then I forgot and shaved. I'm starting again now. I'm aiming for a big Dwarven-style monster of a thing. :P

Yup, Game Informer confirmed it. (Though the link is to Destructiod.com)

Game Informer has blown the lid off the long-awaited sequel to Oblivion, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Quite a bit has been revealed, including Fallout-style Perks, dynamic NPC interactions, a brand new engine and the ability to wear a beard. That latter news is obviously the best thing ever.

BEARDS CONFIRMED! YOU CAN HAVE BEARDS!

I once had an admirable goatee, but I cut it off about a month ago. Originally I wanted to wait till it was long enough to braid it. I was getting a forkbeard, like in "Svein Forkbeard" and I couldn't stand that. Now I just have a shorter, full beard.

sweet! I never have the will to have a bearded character in Morrowind, but in Oblivion I suppose the lack of chance make me want it.

That is lame! I don't condone business practices that dictates my facial hair growth. (Get out of my personal space dang nab it!!) If it's kept clean, who the hell are they to tell me what I can and can't do with my face?

Next they'll start telling you nothing but a #2 crop is acceptable and women must wear buns. <_<

I joined the facebook group and remarkably my beard has actually started to get thicker THIS very year. I'm 17 (18 in February) and my beard has always been more like hair until 2011. It must be a sign!

And about ChiChub - are you serious? Sue the bastards! Men have the right to be masculine!
