I am playing Skyrim on pc so obviously I don't have Hearthfire yet but after seeing someone over YouTube on the Xbox planting ingredients in her own garden of her just build house I am wondering if you can grow and successfully harvest all plant ingredients, including the rare plants Crimson Nirnroot, or even better: Jarrin Root, the highly toxic plant you only can get one during (spoilers alert) the Dark Brotherhood quest line.

If you can I assume the Green Thumb perk will really come in handy here.

Well you can't plant nirnroot, I tried, so it would be safe to assume you can't plant crimson nirnroot or jarrin root.

Hm, that would be disappointing actually.

Someone mentioned this in another thread, but the assumption is that you cannot grow jarrin root due to the fact that there is not a sprite for the actual plant -- the game only has data for the root itself. To my knowledge, no one has conclusively tested/proved that jarrin root cannot be grown, but it's most likely not possible.
