Growing Hair

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:07 pm

I'm having several ideas regarding beards and hair.

1. Beard and hair should grow over time.

2. Female characters should be able to grow a beard.

3. There should be barber profession to keep your hair and beard stylish and tidy.

4. If you don't maintain your hair and beard there should be penalties.
* 4.1 You should trip over the long beard.
* 4.2 You should be blinded by unattended hair.
* 4.3 NPCs should dislike bear looking characters.

Hair should grow to the longest choice of hair, and barbers should be included without a doubt.

It would be a nice touch, but I wouldn't really care if its left out due to time.

We should also be able to buy fake beard and hair to be able to travel incognito (like Leclerc from Allo Allo).

The game isnt called Elder Scrolls: Barber. Having to tend hair would be going way to far. There is a fine line between reality and fantasy and your idea goes well past reality.

Hairstyles should be changeable after you choose your race, gender and other stuff for the final time but hairstyles should not 'grow' on their own. Perhaps if its a windy day a person with longer hair would have his hair blow around but not to the point tto where it becomes a problem

Poll:

No.

No.

No.

Er...do you mean A: barbers we can visit and change hairstyles, or B: your character become a barber?

If A, "Don't care."

If B, "Oh, hell no!"

* 4.3 NPCs should dislike bear looking characters.

Uh...have you ever looked at a Nord? Why would NPCs in the land of the Nords not like characters who look like Nords?

In response to your 1-4

1.) I agree that facial hair and head hair should grow over time. It adds another aspect of the game that would be pretty cool. Besides if you want a "viking" like character, why not let it all flow out? This is a good idea and the only way it should be able to be cut is by reporting to a town barber. (Unless you do it yourself)

2.) WHAT?........... umm, how about NO! My main character is a female and I absolutely do not want her growing a beard. Women are supposed to have soft, pretty faces. Not gruff, beastly looking ones. Also, how many woman in real life do you know that have beards? Women do not grow full fledged beards. Maybe a little bit of very fine hairs on the upper lip and cheeks, but not a beard (unless they are taking testosterone pills).

3.) I agree. The barber profession would be great. That could be another added in-game profession if it were implemented. I also think that you should be able to change your hairstyle at any given time (at the barber) during the course of the game.

4.1) No tripping over the long beard. I am all for realism, but that adds a dimension that doesn't need to be added. Not much more to say about that.

4.2) I actually kind of like this one. While your in the first person mode, if there is hair covering either eye (or both), it should obstruct your sight. If this were implemented however, it would have to have an option to shut it off.

4.3) Just like in real-life, people have opinions of other peoples hair styles. They can actually say a lot about a person. I agree with you on this one.

Don't want hair to grow exactly. But I'd like to be able to change hair style and facial hair style in the game, maybe by visiting a barber. Its just sometimes on a long play through I get a bit fed up of my characters hair and they way they are looking, I'd like to be able to 'grow' a beard at this point or 'cut' it off, same goes for hair. But i don't want to have to maintain my hair throughout the game! A bit to real life for me!

Your beard length should be affected by your level. Godlike men always have incredible beards.

You should be able to visit a barber and change your hair styles, however. Sure, its not totally realistic, but its a better option than not having any control over it at all or having some complex growth system.

No. It doesn't add that much to game play in my opinion. Having barbers there to change your hairstyle would be good, like the Butler robots in Fallout.

Bad idea. Fable 2 and 3 took on a similar approach in terms of character size and height. The more you improved your guns skill, the taller you got, the more you improved your strength the bigger you got, the more you increased your magic skills the bluer you got, and the more good you were, the paler you got.

Perhaps by using the same methodology Bethesda is using for "dynamic snow" they could add hair. Say you turn off your game to go to bed, and your characters face is retextured with a 4-clock shadow when you get back 10 hours later. That'd be impressive...but it'd also be incredibly annoying for those who just want a clean shaved character.

A great idea is to implement a barber shop so we can change our characters hair appearance...Toggling the race menu and having my characters stats reset is not very enjoying.

As of right now I like the stats the way they are and I disagree with the female beards. Sorry but I dont think that actually existed back then

I think people are misunderstanding what you mean by barber's apparently. What the OP is saying should there be a barber profession that players can do, not that there will be barbers.

As for what your saying, I think there should be growing hair and beards but I don't think it should blind you or trip you. The tripping over the beard is just silly. Who would be able to grow a beard so fast that you could trip over it. To get a beard that long would take someone nearly all their life.

Yes

All that said, I don't think that growing hair or beards is going to happen any time soon.

Hair grow? [NUMMIT] no! I want what I pick, ESPECIALLY after I slaved for hours to make a character that I find acceptable. Having that character change would piss me off. I will accept a barber profession, only so that if I grow bored with a hair style I can always change it.

Im sorry, if you don't have a beard you're simply not a man. It's only logical that your beard grow as your increase in strength.

I'm thinking this is a satirical thread. Which is humorous considering how many people are taking it seriously.

-No.
I want full control over my character's beard.

-Yes.
This is more realistic. However, a perk should allow a long-bearded character to turn a stumble into a flying headbutt attack, and/or a beard-trip on his enemies (like Sindel in one of the Mortal Kombat games).

-Yes.
This is more realistic. However, a "Hippie Warrior" perk should allow my character's hair to blind his enemies instead.

-Yes.
With various NPC customers who're dynamically assigned a hair style preference via Radiant Story.

Finally someone that gets it. This here is the one and only secret to a good immersive, mature, dark and gritty, VISCERAL RPG. (did I miss any buzzword? Must have  )
