Growing up in TES 5?

Post » Mon Jan 03, 2011 9:58 pm

I was thinking that maybe the character grows up in the game. Perhaps NPCs too. Maybe getting older effects your attributes and you lose some strength or speed or getting more intelligence or willpower. What are your thoughts?

Hmm well I wouldn't see an aging process over the time span of the game like Fable happening. Perhaps maybe similar to Fallout 3 where maybe you start out as a child, in a jail cell???? Who knows, I'm sure Bethesda could do some interesting back story with that.

I think growing is a necessity, but it shouldn't effect the attribute because honestly, who wants to lose their lvl 100's across the board because they are getting older.

We get old in real life and lose skills, who the heck would want to experience that in a game?

I first assumed that you meant something like what they did with character creation in Fallout 3, but now I'm thinking that you mean to have your character aging throughout the game maybe? In that case I guess it could be implemented, maybe in the way that you age while you level or something. Don't really see it as necessary though, but I honestly don't care whether it's implemented or not.

I don't think the game lasts long enough for people to get older noticably.

It definitely doesn't. Even if they make some pretty extensive changes to how the games work, it'd take an absolute and complete overhaul of just about everything that's been consistent in this series to make something like aging fit in. Besides which several of the races in the game... er... don't really age fast enough for you to ever see it, even if you went out of your way to try.

I don't want to grow up, but I want to see children, to make the game more realistic.

I would enjoy the ageing process to be similar to in Assassin's Creed 2; in that you age but you couldn't tell by just looking at your character, you'd have to see before and after pictures for it to be noticeable.

Even if you play TES for 100 real world hours they game has only lasted like 3-5 years in the game world. There would be absolutely no change to see!

i think time can be relevant in the game. For example you can begin the game at 15 years old and after 100 hours of gameplay to be 45 years old. One day in the game could mean 30 days in real world or something like that. In that case a 15 years old child has different face and skin than the same person after 30 years. A potential problem is what happens if you get too old... well, thats something that Bethesda should think about...

IAWTC. That was my problem with Oblivion. No children kind of makes me lose my immersion.

I think by growing up, that predetermines your history. I always enjoyed making up my own past. Plus the whole grow up thing is already done in fable and i never really enjoyed that part.

ageing is fine as is but if it had to be implemented, start off at 12-15 somewhere and end up 20+ somewhere. but then again people choose their ages and dont like to be forced into having one ESPECIALLY role players

Geez, that's one long day, having to play for 30 days in real life jus for one game day to pass. THat's some really slow time Tamriel's got.

Growing up in an RPG, in my opinion, has already proven to be an uninteresting pursuit. Just look at Fable.
Fable I: From child to old man
Fable II: Briefly child, then advlt
Fable III: No aging whatsoever.

The purpose of each Elder Scrolls tale is to give the story of the hero's adventures during a critical period in Cyrodelic history, so it's not just about the hero but about the event itself. Therefore, an aging character would seem pointless and counter intuitive.

I would prefer to see no aging within the game. As stated already the time span of the game really limits the ability to effectively implement it anyway. I'd rather not bother which having to go through growing stages every time I wanted to start a new character.

Yeah. Plus, Bethesda can just add in the aging slider again so we can make our own old character.

No, only the option to select your age during character creation.

To be honest i personally would like to see my character growing up in the game. Now for TES 5 i think that i would like bethesda to concentrate on developing other more important things so i could make patience to see it in future TES games perhaps...

I kinda want to say yes, but I don't think this series is ready for it yet. Someday, maybe you could have entire family lines, and such, but as of now, I don't think so.

Aging would suggest eventual death. That essentially puts a time limit on the game. Either that or you get to a certain age and then live forever as an elderly character... no thanks.
