for a lot of us, um, older people, we grew up with video games. back in the 70's and 80's they were a big deal. blew many an allowance stuffing quarters into Galaga, donkey kong, pac man etc. then the atari 2600 came out and it became affordable to own a system and waste hours playing games. then Nintendo came along and made them much more fun. when the first mainstream computers hit the market, like the Macintosh, first thing many of us wanted to know was what games could it play for us older cats video games defined the times. you couldn't grow up in the 70's and 80's (especially boys) without falling in love with video games.
I'm turning the big 40 at the end of august and last august I also had twin girls! Looking very forward to this games as well time, permitting lol.
I would have thought the name of the thread would have been discretely changed with the both of you on here lol
*quickly closes can of worms
Once a gamer, always a gamer. I've been one since I was 14, I guess (C-64 ftw!). I'm 41 now. It doesn't let go of you, and that's fine.
If you were a fellow C64 gamer, you're gonna like this:
In the showcase, when we first see the Pip-Boy booting up, it says "64K RAM SYSTEM" and "38911 BYTES FREE"
I both agree and disagree... *lol* I don't really watch tv anymore. Can't actually, local cable switched to digital, without me noticing, at some point during the last year. Which is kinda annoying, because I usually watch the tour de france during the summer.
On the other hand I love my netflix. I've been gobbling up, what I think constitute good shows, like theres no tomorrow. The different star trek series, firefly, bones, xfiles, twin peaks, supernatural, house md., breaking bad and what not. Stuff I used to follow, but gave up on, after missing x number of episodes (well xfiles generation of shows). Theres some decent to really good stuff out there.
...
In any case 34 years old this year and... well the day I can't become giddy about things like fo4 anymore... Will be a sad day.
I'm 33, and kicking myself that I didn't wait and preorderered before the pip boy edition was announced.
No one believes we even exist. And we surely don't play video games.
Hit 40 yesterday, and while I don't get as excited as I used to about vidyagames, I can't effing wait for F4. I'm hoping it will evoke in me the same feelings and anticipation I used to get running home from the computer shop with a new game.
I'm Liam Neeson and I still love playing video games, in fact one of my favorites is actually in this very series.
Something about that guy with the peculiar accent and the gravelly voice just draws me in...
Errr... man?
Yeah, this thread really ought to be titled 'Grown men and women getting excited about a video game'
Mid 50s here and yes I am excited about FO4. For many in my age group and above we can still remember doing "drills" in school in case of a nuclear attack. This game is nostalgic in more real ways than one might think possible. Mum remembers the day "the bomb" was dropped and she often sits on my bed and watches me play FO3 with great fascination and she's 87.
I'm 70 years old and still play PC games.
I'm with the original poster but lets hope the executives at Bethesda have as much love for Fallout as the fans. A particularly money minded exec reading the comments on this thread might form the impression we all love it unconditionally. Where would that leave us? Best to keep them on their toes I think; they need healthy criticism rather than unadvlterated praise to deliver what we want.
I'm 55 and cannot wait for this game. My brother is 50 and is a huge Fallout fan. Granted, I did not skip down to the store and get a PipBoy. But if it comes out at midnight, I will be there. No digital for me.
I did the midnight release thing for Skyrim because I wanted the 'cloth-like map'. This time I imagine I'll just get it on Steam so that I can have it pre-downloaded to actually start playing at midnight, as opposed to having to drive home and install it. Of course, if the physical copy comes with some irresistible bling I may have to reconsider.
I'm 53 and now I don't feel so lonely on these boards.
Now git offa ma lawn!
