GTA Got Screwed Over by TES

Post » Sat May 17, 2014 7:48 pm

This competition was an advertising stunt for GTA5

http://uk.gamespot.com/greatest-game-series/peoples-choice/index.html

the contest was set for GTA to win but TES outvoted it by the tiniest amount, instad of making anything of it, Gamespot just brushed it under the carpet.

I just find this hilarious and thought i would share it

Also the relevant post on the Gamespot forums

This is nothing to do with the poll, it's about gamespot's reaction.

I find it hilarious. I don't feel GTA has been influential enough to be game of the decade. Half Life 2 though is and its episodes. Completely redefined everything in the video game industry, even how they approach projects in a more cinematic manner. I don't feel other than GTA 3 and GTA 5 have the games been truly revolutionary in their technical achievements. Merely delivering super good quality games. They haven't done much to influence or change how games are made unless you consider a bigger budget the key to success.

Half Life 2 as the game of the decade for sure though. You might convince me to make a separate award for the game series of the decade, but that feels like cheating to me.

LOL! They wanted GTA to win as a part of the GTA V launch hype. This was hilarious.

I find it hilarious that they couldn't even properly set up GTA to win in a poll on their own website. Then again, maybe I should be happy that they didn't try. :ermm:

I didn't know about this megapoll, funny outcome indeed. I thought Gamespot was Bethesda friendly.

Well, Bethesda won't be releasing anything soon, so they're not paying them for marketing :hehe: There's no loyalty there, they're just [censored]s.

Considering Rockstar North spent 260million on making GTAV, and made all that back just on pre-orders....

Don't think they give a [censored].

All this talk about crooked gaming journalism has given me a sudden craving for Doritos.

I really couldn't care less what other people think of this game. I'll decide if I like or don't like about the game, and whether it's worthy of my money. I don't let other people decide for me.

It's a pretty sad sign that GTA even got that far.

Agree.

But the same i can say for Skyrim. TES is aiming for the same public.

Well it's the Elder Scrolls that won, not just Skyrim. Considering Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim together, I'd say they probably could deserve it.

But why the hell are they having this content in 2013? Surely it makes more sense to do it in 2020? :bonk:

I thought it was for last decade, 2000-2010. Otherwise Half-Life, at least, would not qualify (there hasn't been a release in that series since ~2007, no?).

But I don't think the actual meaning of words matters much to the writers concerned.

I don't see a reason to care, TES and GTA are titan series of games within the realms of gaming, but are unarguably kings within their respective genres of game and continue to change, or at least improve, the methods and gameplay of their genre. I'd say they're BOTH the greatest and most influential games of the decade. Skyrim is in a bit of a slump plot wise, but I do say that, in some respects, they did improve (and much to my annoyance, streamlined) the gameplay compared to Oblivion, but they still helped show what kind of things people liked in the game.

That said, who actually cares about Gamespot's opinion? Gamespot is, in my personal opinion, to gaming journalism what Fox News is to accurate news reporting.

That's what I thought, so GTA V and Skyrim shouldn't even be mentioned.

I've put something like 40 hours into GTA V already. Crazy great game.
As for Gamespot, does anyone remember when they had the side kick contest and the pilot from duck tales won? They were so mad. Same kinda thing happened here.

I find that post facepalm-able. Do tell how Half Life doesn't deserve the title.

Because there hasn't been a Half-Life release this decade.
